Re: 2.1 auto estate
If I can take us back to the start of this string
I wrote to dandec2004 vendor of the estate on Ebay.
I kindly pointed out a blatant typo /word misuse and suggested he disclosed the mileage and service history situation to enhance his sale.
I also invited him to join this forum to get some feedback/ the general consensus to his "ad".......his reply
"If you are interested in buying the car I am happy to answer any questions about it, the fact that you have gone to the trouble of sending me a message about how I have described it is ridiculous, a waste my time. Any further messages from you will not be read and deleted immediately."
It would appear I am now unable to ask any further questions or pursue an expensive purchase of a ......pig in a poke?
I do wonder why four years ago it came off the road

Hi Xmas!
Welcome to our club-xm.
Thank you for your post about the Basingstoke auto on ebay.
It has saved me the grief of wasting both mine and the sellers time.

Try a newer Auto Adaptive like the 4HP20 and all of the vices you so dislike are entirely absent. Why go to all the bother of changing gears manually when an autoadaptive will do it all for you? Seriously the auto adaptive autobox (of which the 4HP20 is an early example) and the old hydro-mechanical such as the 4HP14/18 are as different as chalk and cheese.
I've just re-read the ebay advery for the XM that is the subject of this topic. I'd say a good opening bid would be 500 PENCE and not 500 POUNDS..
I love the language used. For instance:
eBayese: "The vehicle has climate control but a loose fuse connection means that this works intermittantly [sic]"
Translation: "The vehicle has climate control but it is completely wrecked and is beyond any reasonable repair"
If it's only a loose fuse why does he not tighten it and thus be able to boast a fully working system?
On this subject, he then goes on to say the A/C compressor is seized. As this forms part of the climate control maybe the loose fuse is causing the A/C compressor to intermittently seize perhaps?
Of course the real reason the climate control is broken is because the sunroof is not working "at the moment". Maybe in another moment it will be...
eBay: Always good for a giggle

Yes, I think we do love our gearboxes Dean. We're a rare breed!!!

Re: 2.1 auto estate
Doesn't look (or sound) any better even with a 50% price cut
One more cut like that and he'll be getting close to it's worth, as scrap!
Unless there are some really good parts there is nothing to be gained from saving this car. I notice that there is still no mention of the mileage
Rob
PS If anyone wants a really nice 2.1 auto estate.......................

Re: 2.1 auto estate
I would have thought that was getting worth it for peter now. Buy it, MOT it, drive it until it breaks then use it for spares.

Re: 2.1 auto estate
Who says there is a price cut.
Starting price is lower but there is an undisclosed reserve.
IMHO a time waster who will accuse us of wasting his time if we ask for more information.
