Resetting fault & repair a display matrix
I'm having a Citroen specialist fit a new ABS sensor on my S2 2.5 - he says he will have to make an additional charge of £15 to reset the fault on the computer. I agreed to this without thinking but now having thought about it, I was under the impression that you do not need to reset the fault, the ABS self check would do this automatically. The fault light & the matrix warning message would go out when I used a suitable resistor on the connector, so it seems to me that needing to do a reset isn't necessary. Can anyone verify whether its necessary?
The other thing I'd be interested to know is how to fix faulty matrix displays? I seem to recall seeing on this or the other forum a tutorial by a French member giving details on how to do a fix but the accompanying pictures were missing. My matrix has a few lines missing as expected but I have 2 spare ones (untested) and would like to be able to restore them in order to fit a fulling working one. Are there any instructions for removing the instrument panel in order to get to the matrix & trip computer displays?

You will need to delete the fault code from the ecu but the warning light and message will go out as soon as the fault is cleared and the car has been driven, its up to you really.

Clearing fault codes restarts the ECU as clean.
This is critical to be sure that all problems have been fixed.
Some recorded faults are classed as temporary and will be written out as a repaired car runs.
Other recorded faults are classed as permanent and remain in the ECU until it is cleared.
If you run the car then reread an uncleared ECU the recorded faults may not all be valid now.
Orphan permanent faults will still go into the ECU algorithm that determines when to make the ABS light come on.
This is most important with the later Teves ABS.
The earlier Bendix ABS has less complex fault routines.

Dean, found the guide on how to get the display out but can't see anything on how to repair it?
John, its the Bendix version of the ABS. Probably best to have the faults cleared anyway.

I built a fault-code reader from instructions I found on the old XM-L forum that, apparently, can erase fault codes. It certainly shows faults, and then doesn't show them after going through the erase process on my Bendix-equipped car.
It's very simple, just a three wires, a switch and a resistror/LED. If you want, I'll see if I can find the PDF of instructions on my home computer tonight.

I did think price was slightly high when I saw them. I bought a brand new boxed one that John (xmexclusive) spotted on ebay for £60. Although that hasn't arrived yet after almost a week.
You may find it easier selling them separately for people who may only need one, like I did as the sensors usually fail one by one.
Having said that, they are hard to come by now since Citroen don't stock them anymore, although there's a company in Ireland who still have some new old stock at full price.
