Pauls 1991 V6 24v Manual (PICS returned)

Post by citroenxm » Wed Sep 28, 2011 11:52 am

Hi all

Well spurred on by Mathews Topic below mine, I had my 24v Out and About last weekend (24th and 25th September)

Firstly I finally fitted a New HP Pump belt, and tightend it up.. This finally stopped ALL squeaking that the slipping belt was dooing.. Some of you may also recall a charging problem.. I have fitted yet another altinator, however this is still only giving 13.9v when cold, dropping to 13.5v when shes warm.. however, this weekend she did not give me an ounch of bother..

I still had the odd click on first turn, but on the 2nd or 3rd turn of the key she went.. so I - well, we, had great pleasure driving around Saturday afternoon and Sunday in her and she didn't miss a beat - YAY!!

Id be quite interested though from you Mathew, how many miles do you get from £50 at £1.36 a litre please..

My next few jobs now are to clean up the HT Leads, Ive found some red ones, tidy up the engine bay, clean up the front rocker cover again.. she needs an oil weep sealing anyway, re-fit the engine "Cover" if you can call it one.. and fit the proper HP PUmp to regualtor feed pipe.

Cheers for now
Paul

Apologies for the late response Paul, but I was very pleased to hear you are busy with your 24v! In my experience the economy is not great, at least compared to the 2.0i turbo we also currently have on the road. One contributing factor has to be that the car is such a thrill to drive (and hear), one does tend to be a bit heavy with the right foot now and again!! On a longer run you might be lucky to get mid-upper 20s mpg, although I have not done the maths to answer your query. All the best, Matthew T.

I already know what i get mathew. I was curious with yurs... Yur right though they DO encourage foot right down driving...

Well Will was virtually spot on.. I got 150 miles on 50 quid @ £1.36ppl.... Meaning low 20s...

On a run to Cxm last year even with a missing fuel system, as in running on 6 then 5 i saw around the low 30s at a constant cruise at no more then 80 mph..

The 150 miles was a mix drive stop start short dual carrage way run...

When I was running my grey one to Manchester and back a couple of years ago I was averaging 28mpg from it.

I used to come off the motorway at Penrith and take the back roads down to Kendal, that used to bring the economy right down as the roads round there were amazing.

David, hi,
Is the 'grey one' THE S2 24v?
My input is probably unimportant, but when it comes to mileage . . . :D
The Cit is rather thirsty in city driving. You have to have visited Japan to know how traffic is in the cities here. A light every 50 to 100 metres and the synchronization still is a mess. Most people learn to live with it, but quite a few ignore the lights. That aside, V6-24 does 17 mpg in town, the same as my 1974 130 HP Mazda Rotary used to do. But on the expressways it's a different story! This country, as you may know, is mountains, mountains. Hence the millions of tunnels for the high speed railways. For cars you just have to climb up, up, and come down. Interesting to watch your board computer :) . Anyway, at speeds of 100 kph and the occasional spurt to 120, up and down, consumption is 33 mpg. Sorry for mixing units Image
