front passenger seat base wanted

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

front passenger seat base wanted

Post by MTXM » Wed Nov 02, 2011 7:47 pm

I just wondered if anyone could assist with a replacement front passenger seat foam insert in good condition, which could come out of any car, series one or two, with either leather or cloth trim. The side pieces in my driver's seat base are rather crumpled presumably due to age and use and I assume it will be possible to rebuild the seat around another piece of foam. The leather cover to the seat is in reasonable condition. With thanks and regards, Matthew T.

Hi Matthew

The seat bases are handed I am afraid.
Just enough for prevent your intended swap.
I am sorting through my stock of spare bits just now.
Front seat upholstory is on the list.
I wondered about a raid into France or Holland for secondhand LHD Passenger seat bases.

I thought the foam base part you sit on was interchangeable between sides.

I was thinking if doing the same as Matthew and transferring foams, but the leather foams seem to be much softer than the velour ones.

I think there would be good value to go across the water so to speak for LHD passenger front seats with the alcantara and leather to replace tatty RHD drivers fronts.

I'm sure it is. I've just checked Service Citroen and that only shows a single p/n for cushion padding for each type of covering.

I thought so, I often remove them if cleaning seats with the upholstery cleaner, and have fitted them back on the "wrong" seats, the seat belt buckle wear being the give away.

The actual seat runners are sided, and different between series 1 and 2.

Thanks everyone for your advice and it does look like passenger and driver and series one and two bases are interchangeable, but not cloth and leather. Anyone have a passenger front seat base or well preserved driver base in leather (or alcantara?) going spare? With regards, Matthew T.

If I break the Sd shortly, I will have a passenger seat cushion.

It might worth swopping the leather passengers one with the drivers one to see how it looks, you might never notice the wear on the passengers seat, as it will be up along side the centre console.

Thanks for your offer Will and although Robert suggested the cloth foam bases are softer it might still be worth a try. I could indeed otherwise just swap the bases around Robert and the passenger side is altogether much firmer. Regards, Matthew T.

I stand corrected.
The seat foam cushion is symetrical and common to both front seats.
Had to go and check a couple of stripped cushions to check though.
The ABS cushion frame is handed and so is the seat cover.
Robert identifies correctly that there is a cut out one side of the frame for the seat belt buckle.
Changing the seat covers between same hand seats involves a lot of trimming work.
Changing covers between opposite hand seats requires modifying the cover upholstery as well.
Useful to know that the cushions are interchangable as I have some to strip to renew the heating elements.
Swapping them to opposite hand frames and reinforcing the side foam to pull it back to shape could be worth doing.
