Breaking S1 2.1SD

Well, I've started the strip now, for some strange reason starting at the rear underneath. However this did give me the chance to have a good look at the underbody which is OK but has some definite problems rust wise.

I gave the sills a poke with a bar and both went through easily but looking at the rear wheel-arches revealed.









So far I've swapped the rear spheres with a ruptured pair, couldn't undo the centre one though (broke my HD strap-wrench trying), recovered a good condition Walker exhaust, spare wheel carrier, bumper, loosened of the subframe, removed headlining and inner trim, rear lights, most of the dashboard, indicator and wiper stalks, steering sensor and disk, displays, inner rear window and fittings, fuel flap and central locking servo.

Tomorrow should see the front end off and door linings and locks, etc and get ready for the engine and front subframe out.
Lastly will be any doors required, glass, tailgate and sunroof and towbar as that is good for lifting it with.

Just got to work out how to get it to the scrap yard then.

Hire a trailer, and take it yourself. Not so easy when its not rolling. Do any of your neigbours have a tele-handler or forklift?

Or get a scrap man to collect it for a fee.

I intend to get a friend with a trailer round. The only problem is the trailer is a bit high, so there will be some fun jacking the car up that high.
I need to weigh it in to not be out of pocket as I bought the car.

I am keeping the rear subframe and intend to get the front one as well. I don't need either at present but I remember your car and minijet's needing rears, so it seems sensible.

Yur absolutley spot on.. I got a late s2 rear subframe but now have a feeling it may not do firstly as the abs sensors in the arms are tevis and theres an anti sink braket on it....

You could always change the arms over and if the bracket fouls, just cut it off.

If anyone needs this subframe it's all sound.

Im still be needing another as i still have my s1 v6 sei to do up and she has a mechanical knock on the rear i think a fault with the anti roll bar to arm bolts.. So id be looking at changing that when the time comes... Thats is IF NO ONE ELSE has it from you Will...

Hi Paul

The anti-sink bracket is only bolted to the top of the rear subframe.
Easy to remove and put in my heap.
I will also take the rear arms and recover the Teves sensors then return them to you.
Could well find you some good Bendix sensors for the arms.

Just for reference, for easier removal of the rear subframe, lift the boot carpet to reveal the access points to the 4 bolts holding the brackets that the subframe mounts to and which then mounts onto the shell.
