I've a friend who would love to be a XM owner, especially a diesel manual after driving mine. If there are no other definite takers he'd be interested in taking it off your hands with a view to putting it back on the road and using it as his only car. He's in Leicestershire so not that far from Uttoxeter and I'd give him a hand to take it away.

In that case I'd be please to let it go to him as I was only really thinking of saving it from a fate worse than death.

You need to get it quick as I'm currently breaking an S1- 2.1td Auto and am in Leics as well so any bits required would be easy to get.

He's in Barrow Upon Soar which is roughly 35 miles from Uttoxeter. I'm in Surrey but quite happy to come up this weekend/Monday to give him a hand to collect it assuming Steve is agreeable. Thinking of hiring a trailer to take it away with, my 2.5 should be ok to tow it?

2.5 will tow it fine. It depends if you want to respect the weight limits of your towing rig or not.

The trailer hire place has two options, 2750kg and 3500kg both twin axles with winch.

I've sent Steve a PM and email but not had a reply yet. The PM system on this forum does seem a bit hit & miss sometimes.

Thanks to Robert for providing me with Steve's number from the listing on CCC classifieds I was able to speak to him.

Should be going over on Tuesday. Steve says the suspension is on its haunches so it would be very difficult to winch it onto a trailer in this state, he says he tried to start it but it just turns over but doesn't fire. Any ideas what it could be? or any way of getting it onto a trailer when its in its lowered state?

A rather drastic option is to take the bumpers off.
This clears enough to winch up onto most trailers despite the suspension being down.
Needs to be both bumpers off as front catches going up and rear comming back down.

Check the fuel cut off button that is on some models, just beside the driver strut top.

One other thing you could do is stick the car being recovered into 4th gear, and tow it along the road until the suspension rises up.
