Assuming it's a Bosch pump, not Lucas Epic, not firing will be air in the fuel or a sticky shut-off.

I know a couple of places near Leicester you can rent trailers from fr about £45, and the one at Barwell will transport the car for you for a fee. iirc, his minimum charge is £90.
The trailers will take the weight, but you will be over the allowable gross tow weight for towing with an XM, it's 1500Kg iirc.

East Midlands hire rent car transporters but they are about £150 per day.

I'm very close to Barrow and actually went there (sort of) a couple of times yesterday.

A rather drastic option is to take the bumpers off.
This clears enough to winch up onto most trailers despite the suspension being down.
Needs to be both bumpers off as front catches going up and rear comming back down.

I wouldn't do that. One of mine had been winched on not running and it caused a bit of damage to the centre brace and rear hydraulics brackets and height control rod.

It shouldn't be hard to get it going if it's not Epic.

Do you remember the Guy that approached me at CXM 2010 about a 2.1td he had to sell. It had been standing 2 years but fired up with a bit of pumping of the filter primer.
