ABS/BRAKE PIPE?
Hi guys,
Ive got an XM mk2 2.1td sx, Havent driven it yet as the hydraulic pipes are abit of a mess, Since its leaking LHM and therefore the brakes are not working or the suspension void, Im unable to take it to the specialist to have them repair it. So seems my only solution is to find the pipes I need replacingor at least have them made to spec?
The 1st pipe that is corroded and snapped is the pipe that starts from the ABS and leads to the front O/S brake. Has anyone got one? Should I take it off and get it made to spec? The second pipe that had a pin hole is the High Pressure LHM pipe (the second pipe from the rear O/S) can this section be cut out and replaced or must the whole pipe be replaced?
Advice very very welcome.

Re: ABS/BRAKE PIPE?
You should replace the pipe if there are more than one areas of failure, or likely future failure. Otherwise cut out the bad bit, and get the hold of a flare tool and flare each end, and stick a pipe joiner in if its less than 6cm long approx.

Re: ABS/BRAKE PIPE?
Specific tools required, and last I heard ( could be wrong) was that you could not buy the flaring tools any more?
The flares are citroen specific.
I think the best thing to do would be to see if anyone close to yourself could make up a pipe for you.

Re: ABS/BRAKE PIPE?
Tools are available, just no longer from the citroen specialist with the un-spellable name.
Someone posted a link to a youtube video of an automec tool in another thread. The only snag with it is that you can't use it on a pipe that has a car connected to it. That was the beauty of the tool from the specialist with the un-spellable name.
The general hydraulic pipes are 3.5mm, and most generic brake pipe flare tools are imperial sizes, and not compatible. And fittings are Citroen specific as Dave has pointed out. I bought some pipe and fittings from Malcolm Lockwood earlier this year.

So could be tough verging on near impossible to do it myself? seems like the only option is to remove the damage pipe and get it made to spec if I can find someone....think there's some guys in Loughborough that dieselman mentioned to me.
Any idea of costing?

Hi Insid
If the ABS pipe you need is short and 3.5mm then I will make one up and post it to you if I cannot find one from the heap of bits.
Just measure its length and give me a PM.
Have you tried to undo any of the pipe joint nuts yet?
This is often the worst bit of hydraulic pipe replacement on cars that have been left for a good while in the open.

Re: ABS/BRAKE PIPE?
I bought flaring tools for both sizes of pipes and lengths of actual pipe from Pleiades (as mentioned by Robert) and for short sections at least the task is not too difficult, especially if the pipe is accessible. Best of luck, Matthew T. PS. Here is a link for details of Pleiades: http://www.classiccarwebsite.com/pleiades

Having seen the car and subframe area, I think the unions will part readily.xmexclusive wrote:Hi Insid

If I am reading the posts and EPC properly this pipe is 4.75mm (3/16ths ") diameter and 1000mm long, but will be standard double flare as it's brake pipe, not Citroen hydraulics pipe.
