As title listing ( P177 CVJ ) spotted on
E-BAY nice tidy looking estate in Silver with low miles (83.6k) and a recent new mot until Jan 2013 with tax until July, shame its a sluuuugomatic

It looks like its been cherished, but I doubt very much that its a forum members XM as they'd surely know that's its a TD (but note, the
'Turbo D' badge is missing on the F/N/S wing) as the advert listing is a bit vague/sparse, without a comprehensive description it's possibly a VSX spec. having the headlamp jet-wash fitted, but no full climate control !

Does look nice, but I read the description first before I saw the price.
Is £2250 really a reasonable price for this?

Seems ludicrously expensive to me - if I added up the price of the three XMs I've had over the past 12 years it doesn't come to that much.
If it was a manual, and under £1500, I might have been interested.

Lucas Epic too.
If everything has been done to the car recently, belts, spheres, quality tyres etc and it was completely rust free. Then a fair price after some haggling. I'd rather buy a well sorted Xm than a dog of a C5 at the same money.

Most of us discount the value of our labour on repair and fault diagnoses on our Citroens.
There are a fair number of Citroen owners without that skill or inclination.
Many of these enthusiasts rely on one of the small number of specialists such as WHM who still supply and repair XM's and similar Citroens. A few others even use Citroen dealers at some considerable cost as I have seen in the service histories I have inherited.
In this market it is not just the initial cost of the car but also the annual maintenance costs that matter.
Firstly WHM can often supply a car to customer specific order.
They then can often expect to see it back regularly for routine maintenance.
A day out in Norfolk using a courtesy car while the work is done will appeal to many of these customers.
Could even see the customer getting to try out that V6 or CX that they have hankered after.
It is not cheap to sort out older cars to this standard.
That WHM do it rather well is proved by the fact that they are a long standing firm that is well respected by their customers.
Just because it is not our way does not make it wrong just different with its own pricing structure.
Because of those differences we should not be surprised that we cannot achieve the same values when selling our XM's.

Is it an EIPC? I would have expected it to be but can't see any trunking on the engine and it appears to have a throttle cable.

I'm going by the plastic inlet manifold and the epic style intercooler to inlet manifold pipe. But it doesn't have all the Epic and automatic crap that bolts onto the side of the battery box. Old style diesel filter as well. A mystery. It must have an earlier RP number then.

Investigated a 96 EPIC in the scrap yard just north of Andover a few years ago.
The throttle pot (BOSCH) was mounted underneath a bracket engine side of the battery box.
Throttle cable followed the route of the one in the photo.
Lucas EPIC used some BOSCH 2.5 flyby wire bits on the first years production.
That bracket and pot mount are standard 2.5 bits from LHD 2.5's but the pot electric connector has different wire allocations.
The standard 2.5 UK engine wiring loom has an unused FBW pot electrical connector loose under the battery box.
Suggests that the loom is common to all 2.5 XM's.
From my looks throgh the Citroen workshop manual I decided that early and late EPIC's have some non interchangable components.

Interesting John,
I haven't had an early Epic car yet, just a very late one.
Here is a picture of the engine bay of the 2000 2.1 Auto that I did the Bosch conversion on in 2010. That is what I imagine when I think of Lucas Epic.
There are quite a few differences between this one and the P reg Estate. Kevin (red dwarfers) has an R Reg 2.1 TD that he got from Campbell (Messerschmit) a while ago; is it an early Epic Kevin, or a later type?

Well, that's a nice ad for WHM. They certainly do fill a particular niche, and seem to do it successfully.
But I don't see teh relevance, as this isn't a WHM car, it is a private sale, and therefore comes without any of the warranty, sale of goods legislation cover and dealer benefits that you would get with buying a car from a dealer such as WHM.
