Wanted: A Borrow or Hire of Pipe Flare tool

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Wanted: A Borrow or Hire of Pipe Flare tool

Post by Geoff Lebowski » Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:13 pm

Hi all,
My BX burst a rear suspension pipe this afternoon. I can't quite stretch financially to the ones on ebay but I'm happy to 'hire' one from a willing lender and cover costs of postage etc to include an appropriate level of postal insurance.

I appreciate that these tools are rare and expensive, and that I've made a 'big' request! Hopefully those who've met me can confirm that I'm a chap of 'reasonable' standing!

Fingers crossed.

From where - to does the offending pipe go?? A front to back pipe I guess?!

Shame, is it was a shorter rear pipe, IE height corrector to strut Id have a go sending a suitable replacment for you to fit....

Hi Neil ;) , when you state a rear suspension pipe, is it just one of the shorter ones feeding the suspension cylinders or one of the longer ones which run from front to rear but has failed towards the rear of the vehicle ?

If you get lucky enough to get to 'borrow/hire' a flaring tool great, but surely the cost of postage/insurance etc. will proably work out more expensive (Therefore out-weighing) the cost of getting a new one just made up by THIS service offered by an E-bay vendor, also saves time/cost of sourcing the pipe and fittings too (Unless you already have some) ?

Also IIRC the O/E new ones on E-Bay for a BX (listed/offered by AEP if they still have any left) were not that dear anyway heres one for the rear L/HAND ;)

I hope this maybe of help (Especially if you'd not spotted the /\ E-Bay pipe maker/supplier) ?

:)

Hi all,
thanks for the replies.

It's one of the long pipes that runs front to back. Pretty sure it's the feed to the rear height corrector and feeds in somewhere by the front subframe. I've not had a chance to look properly yet. The Citroen PR-Net drawing is merely a schematic making it hard to identify the pipe by location/shape.

Thanks for info XMX. AEP don't list any of the long pipes and without a part number to identify my failed one then for now I've ruled them out. (I'll check out your AEP link though - at first glance that pipe looked too short but it's worth checking on PR-Net). I had seen the chap making the pipes and he's my 2nd choice but I'm looking at £25 - £30. Not bad I know but as I want to replace most/all of the pipework eventually with Kunifer (and I have a big spring time project planned) then I'm at that point where I'd rather put that money towards some Unions/Kunifer or maybe even a tool if Plaiedes still make them? Actually on that note, does anyone have their web address as I couldn't find it via a google search - or atleast what came up was not Citroen related.

Thanks for the offer of sending a pipe Paul - very kind of you. I'm lucky it failed on the drive - I'd been up to Liverpool a few weeks earlier!

Hi John, thanks - I'll read your PM now!

Thanks all, such friendly people. Of course - this would happen when the C5 plays up! Long story but it's up for sale

When mine went I cut it and joined a short length on the end. That was the easy part, getting the union apart wasn't. I have done several repairs by just inserting a short section.

I would like to thank xmexclusive for his help in getting my BX back on the road with 2 new copper/nickle alloy pipes from front to back. Bit of a bu$$er to get them bent properly but some fiddling got them fitted ok.
In the end I used a German (of all places) company to supply the pipe. The French company was out of stock. The website is http://www.franzose.de. They are a little more expensive than the French site and it took a week to arrive (ordered on a Wednesday and not despatched till the Monday  ). The website really only caters for the older cits but their pipe is very good.
Is there a 'useful links' section on here for the website to be posted?
