Wanted: motor for driver side window

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Hi Penny,

Welcome to Club XM.

Are you sure the motor has failed? The very common experience on XM windows is snapping of the steel operating cables due to rust and the motor is usually fine. A club member sells DIY kits on ebay for replacing these cables with stainless steel ones - much cheaper than a complete unit.

Just checked with my garage who are Citroen mad, and one of whom had identical model to mine, and he said I should be looking for whole mechanism. Said he had tried replacing the cables on his car (don't know if was same supplier as you suggest) and it did not work out well.
Haven't been able to open my passenger and driver windows for several years now.

Hi Penny

There are at least 4 different designs of drivers window winder for Mk2 XM's.
This includes two different types of motor.
SX models have the same simple motor arrangements as Mk1 XM's and the other doors on Mk2's.
The other type of motor for VSX and Exclusive drivers doors have the motor control ECU integrated with the motor.
The plug connector for this rather expensive control system went through 3 variations between 1994 and 1997.
Get the wrong one and at best the connections will need to be bodged.
Most spares sellers have no idea about these differences.

How do I find out which type mine is?
Do you know anyone near me (Luton area) who has the knowledge to help me with various things my car needs doing to it, like the window mechanisms, but that my local garage is unwilling to do, preferring to just tell me to get another car?
My apologies for not responding sooner, but thought I would get email notification if any responses, so have not looked since march soon after I first posted here.

Hi Penny,

Not sure whether you rely on your car for daily transport, but if you do, and the window-winder mechanism needs to be removed for identification and repair, it is possible to secure the window glass in a closed position - simply place a small block of wood under the bottom edge of the glass, and hold in place with a couple of screws through the inner door skin.

Good luck.

Hi Penny, John has outlined the MK2 drivers window regulator types above in his reply to you !

So basically if its an 'SX model' these were relatively easy to source new from GSF/Euro-Carparts £87.50 = VAT (last catalogue price) but I've just checked with both of them and are NLA

But if you were very desperate WHM have a used one available (£99 + £10 p/p) and looking @ the listing/stocks folks seem to be buying them

If however your model is a VSX/Exclusive model (provided no one has messed with the vehicle since leaving the factory) it will be a '9-pin type' !

So the best information currently available with photo's (IMHO) for you to decipher the '9 pins types' is from
Robert's recently sold/completed E-BAY listing's (Which was usually for the early model fitments) !

I see from in the (earlier) /\ posts that Robert did send you a PM, but if you did not reply to it ?

Possibly the one he had available was the one he's just sold ?

So if that is the case, and Robert cannot oblige your requirement I have a spare, of both '9-pin types' available !

PM me if I can be of help ?

XMX

.
An XM if for life, (Not just for Christmas) !

Edit note: Ignore the comment below in italics.
Should have read the text in Roberts advert.
I agree with XMX that we should pull these things together to make information searching easier.

John

XMX is not quite right about the 9 pin winders.
The one in Robert's auction photo is the middle one of the 3 types Citroen fitted.
Identifiable by the PSA red slide locking plug. This was fitted from sometime in 1995 until late 1996.
The earlier type uses the same pinning but has different polarisation slots and the locking is a thin Citroen spring wire.
