Fuel consumption

Post by Dieselman » Sat Mar 31, 2012 6:36 pm

Today I've been on two errands, one into London. Both trips have been dispatched quickly ;) But I think I've still achieved pretty decent consumption.
310 miles so far today and not yet half a tank of juice gone....and no aches or pains either.

That's pretty good, you are on target for 800 miles from a tank, my snails pace driving has given me nearly 1000. Compare that with an Hdi :

That's on the 406 on the last 6214 miles, apologies for the failing display.

I had a 90 Bhp 406 Hdi and best ever was 50mpg over a tank. I think I could achieve better than that with careful driving in the XM, in fact I'm sure I did when I bought the mandarin one home.

Mine is a 110 hp. That figure is obviously a mix of long distance and local driving, the Scotland trip last year gave a 60.1 avarage, in fact most reasonably long journeys on good roads yield around 60 mpg sometimes more but running around locally gives about 50 mpg but even that is mostly on rural roads. The best I ever had on a trip from here to Minehead, a notoriously slow road was 69 mpg.

I take it those figures are from the OBD, not actual brim to brim calculations.

Yes it is but that is reflected in the ammount of fuel I have to buy, for instance I use about 2/3 of a tank between Axminster and Inverness. My calculations for the XM on the same journey were brim to brim as that's the only way and they worked out at 50-55mpg every time

The best I ever recorded was 34 mpg. The usual figure is about 32 with my 2.0 litre SEi. The worst figure of 20 mpg I attained by driving the car on 340 miles of 3 mile urban trips in cold weather. Staggering. But I hard to work at it.

Ah but that uses that antiquated gasoline - I couldn't afford to run that :D
