Post by robert_e_smart » Thu Apr 19, 2012 10:27 am

I just noticed this on my e-bay trawl.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1989-CITROEN- ... 548wt_1164

Never seen an estate model before. It looks quite smart.

Two mistakes there... Firstly, not quite a mistake but more shame its a 1/43 scale model.

Second, estates werent out in 1989, they were a couple of years after to allow Helieuz to get there act together, which they didnt quite.. :D

A nice change for a model though

Good find Robert, although you could almost get a real one for that price! I agree with Paul that the estate was not launched until 1992. The model also seems to represent a series 2 car and I am not sure the estate was ever fitted with Monte Carlo alloys was it, unless they were an option? With regards, Matthew T.

The UK launch of the XM estate was during 1991.
The brochure I checked K3685 was sent to press on 30.8.91 by Citroen UK.
The French brochure suggests their Brake version launch was March 1992.

Matthew, I think you are right about the Monte Carlo alloys.
In the UK these were officially restricted to Exclusive versions of XM's and then only from the 1996 model year onwards.
The 1995 model year Exclusive Mk2's got V6-24v alloys.
All UK Mk2 estates were VSX models whatever the engine type.
Leather and alloys were options and estates got Etoille's where fitted as did VSX cars.
There was a fair market in dealer upgrades particularly replacing VSX badges with Exclusive ones.
Often done I suspect before the customer saw the car.
There was also much internal trim swapping, mainly leather in or out, to suit the preferences of the regular customers.
Some of this was well done but quite a few just did the seats and not the door cards.
Carpets and the minor items hardly ever got swapped.
A few of these odd spec oddball cars turn up every now and again.
Then there were a few motor show cars specially presented.
A 2.5 estate I saw a few years ago at WHM was one of these show cars.
Non standard dark brown leather very high quality and finish.
Car had been sold on to a regular customer prior to its arrival and was then awaiting collection.
