Post by simonxm21 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 4:05 pm

hi guys, been awhile, but i've been looking at a 1995 xm v6 auto exclusive is there anything i should worry about? is getting one serviced horrendous? can tony weston dursley service one? what sort of mpg? is the rust issues in mk2's any greater than mk1's?

it's chris slater's dads xm which i was going to buy about 4yrs ago from a dutch man and it wasn't bad back then and no doubt be o.k now. just need to know what owning one is like?

many thanks.

a 1995 v6 will be the older prv 12v engine which is a bit more thirsty then the later psa v6. the auto box is the biggest concern and its ESSENTIAL that the auto box fluid has had regular changes in it life for a long life.. it has to have dex 2 in it aswell! theres no cam belts to worry about they are timing chains.. so a service is oil filter plugs and dizzy and rotor... plus air filter... the oil filte is easy to get at.. its under the front bank you can get at it from under the car...start from cold they should be quiet and smooth.. they have hydraulic lifters so should not rattle at all. timing chains can rattle slightly at high miles but they are generally tough. be sure the starter still operates when the engine is hot to be sure the starter is in good order.. they are hidden behind the front down pipe.

auto box should take up smooth and change smoothly... make sure all forwards and reverse work. again be sure for regualr auto box fluid changes..

economy.. not brilliant specially with the autobox.. expect around 25mpg in town prehaps 30 on a run if your lucky.. my 12v v6 sei is on lpg. makes all the difference.

yes s2 cars do seem worse for rust.. get under SUPPORT THE CAR ON STANDS FIRST... and look at the under side carefully..call around the rear subframe.. subframe mounts.. rear cills below the rear doors.. etc etc...
Projects:(eventually if theres any bodywork left)
93 L Xm 2.1t D auto project
93 L xm V6 12v Sei Manual

Others
In use.. 1995 M reg S2 2.1td auto exclusive

thanks for that, it has 100.000 and has just been to the x rally! without a hitch but needs a small patch on front passenger sill and two rear tyres. unfortunately due to family illnesses i'm going to have to put xm ownership on hold for abit longer....................although i do miss my one!! how is it?

oh yeah, chris salter was driving it xm n***rdu. nearly bought a '93 xantia td for £400 but it had a bit of a bump and you could get a whole flat hand turned sideways between the tailgate and rear quarter panel :o so i walked away very quickly........

all the best :)
