Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

I thought I knew my trim levels but...

Post by andmcit » Wed Jun 20, 2012 7:14 pm

here's a weird discovery! One of the 2.0i's I'm in the process of moving on is a J plated saloon in Mauritius blue metallic.
It has the electric (fully working) Si trimmed jersey grey sawtooth seats, electric windows all round, the automatic
(rotary dial) heater controls, the dot matrix displays (saying the rear lights are innoperative when they aren't) and is still
wearing the original shared earth points on both inner wings as an Xm curiosity!

So, even without a badge on the wing an Si right? I'm convinced it's always been an Si although haven't checked the
logbook. Here's the thing, it hasn't got a split folding rear seat and it doesn't have ABS! Didn't all Si's come with ABS
as standard!!?

I've looked everywhere for evidence it once existed but no fluidbloc, ECU or sensors can be found! Odd.

Were the trim and LCD displays a cost option on the base as it'd hardly be worth getting these and rear electric
windows fitted and scrimp on the ABS and not go for an Si to begin with!!

Anyone know their early s1 trim levels as I don't think I do any more!?

Hi And,

On the series 1 2.0i Si models ABS was an "option at extra cost" according to the brochure, Electric seat adjustment came as standard, LCD display was also standard across the range apart from on the I and D models which were true base spec...like the 2.1td "D" one i will be getting.

The base spec is probably most noteable for manual seats, no ABS, no interior rear screen...manual rear windows and a few other items not fitted to them.

Hope that helps.... ;)

Interesting Vince! I'm guilty of being a bit lazy not checking the brochure although I'm thrown by this interior trim level as
only ever seen on an Si, being fitted to a base 'i' spec car. I don't think lack of ABS is a problem just you need to remember
the car is heavier than a Xant and could lock up with its excellent brakes!

My first and favourite Xm was a base 2.0i - it's the red car on my avatar ->

And...im just buzzing to get into an XM after reading all the hype on them....i know im not going to be dissapointed....

Thanks for the heads up on the locking brakes on non ABS models.....the VSX Xantia i have been running for the last 4 years has ABS so its not something i would have been expecting....you kind of forget i suppose that brakes do and can lock up :)

Vince is right about the ABS. In addition your car is an early car if it has the multi earth points, so probably sat around a while.

What colour steering wheel badge does it have, red or black?

One of my cars doesn't have ABS and the brakes seem sharper as a result. This one was locking up but only on one wheel, which turned out to be a cheap tyre and the brake pads installed incorrectly so more braking effect on one wheel.

My first XM didn't have ABS and I once locked it up and scraped a wheel-trim on the kerb as a result.

The problem with locking an XM up is that it takes such will to release the pedal again.

From driving non ABS Cx's for years prior to the Xm's, I know the 'feel' of the non version
is far better and sharper. I once drive round the local roads with a pal comparing identical
cars with/without ABS and we both preferred the feel of the non version. I guess it will be
harder to drive non ABS if you've got used to having this feature and drive accordingly.

I'm damned if I know what the badge colour is!! lol

I've always thought it was an Si that's all, due to the dot matrix LCD and jersey checked trim!

The very early batch of cars are red and later are all black!

Interestingly, genuine red badge cars also had a red "Total" sticker on the rear window.
