Looking more closely at the second strut head he has for sale I see it is an Xantia one.
Slightly confused by the comment about very early strut heads only fitting 2.0i's.
It was the strut design that changed in 1990 not the strut head.
This difference was from two to one strut LHM hole.
Rod taper and strut head stayed the same.
The next change was in 1994 for the 2.5TD with the larger strut rod and matching taper.
The final design change came around 1997 with a new rubber centre for the strut head.
This design change was applied to all types of strut head.
The centre section of rubber projects down about 35mm compared to the previous 20mm design.
The old types ceased to be available with these deep centre replacements a direct fit replacement.
You still have to match, hand, hole size and feed pipe size for your particular application.
You also have to obtain and fit the revised design of rubber bellows.
The ebay strut top photo clearly shows it to be one of the later deep centre type.
But we still need to know if it is LH or RH, 3.5mm or 10mm feed, 23mm or 25mm strut rod.

It's LH iirc and the p/n is definitely an early 2.0 only part.

That change is listed in the Workshop manual.
XM9-No.11 dated 31 Mar 1992.
There is a minor mod to the strut head hence the revised part number.
The seals are changed from 2mm dia by 18mm altered to 2.7mm dia by 18.4 mm.
Seal locations are repositioned towards the top.
So the seal grooves in the strut head are slightly different.
It also lists the interchangability as:
The new suspension cylinders can be fitted to early type sphere supports.
It is forbidden to fit new type sphere support to an early suspension cylinder.
Replacement parts:
When current stocks are exhausted only the new parts will be available.
Repair method:
Mixing the two types on the same vehicle is permitted.
The fitting of a late type sphere support entails WITHOUT FAIL the fitting of a late type suspension cylinder.
This suggests that production of these early XM strut heads and cylinders ceased in 1992.
On that basis there is no way that the early type was ever produced with a deep centre as seen in the one in the photo.
