Wanted: S1 Speedo Upper Cable

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Wanted: S1 Speedo Upper Cable

Post by citroenmad » Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:31 pm

Im after a speedo cable for a S1, the upper section. Mine has snapped at some point along the cable and the end which connects to the speedo has also broken off. Citroen no longer supply them and I can't seem to source one from elsewhere. If anyone has a good one they would want to sell that would be much appreciated.

I think there will be the posibility of getting one made, however I would much rather have one ready to fit in.

Thanks,
Chris.
Chris.

Cannot make promises about how quick I can get hold of one but I guess there'd
be one available sometime with my spare cars although it's a bit long winded getting
these out. Best suggestion if you plan on removing yours current duff one for a pattern
is tie a length of string to one end and draw it out leaving the string to draw the new
one back through. I'm pretty sure it helps being drawn through from the instrument
cluster through under the glovebox and out. I recall a right git of a circular rubber
grommet on the bulkhead that IIRC get's pulled out into the engine bay.

I honestly may not get the time to spare taking things apart though. Have you tried
ebay Germany, Holland, France etc?

If you could drag one out for me that would be ideal Andrew, just let me know if you manage it :)

Ive not, but wont the speedo cable from a LHD car be different?

As Andy says, draw the cable through with string tied and tye-wrapped to the cable sheath.

Pull the cable into the engine bay, it pulls through easily.

Rightho - I have a cable but TBH it does look a bit short!! I wouldn't even be surprised
if it's a LHD one I kept off a v6 I scrapped a while back so it'd be handy to know the
length of a RHD one if that's possible!! lol

I wouldn't like to guess the length and have not got mine off yet, however it must be ober a metre long ...

If you have another one from one of your soon to be culled cars that would be awesome, beer tokens will be sent your way :)
