engine oil
Now I have two XMs, and both need an oil and filter change, can I use the same engine oil in both and what is everyone's recommendation for a decent engine oil that will suit both cars.
According to Halfrauds, the petrol should use semi-synthetic and the diesel a mineral oil. Makes sense almost to buy a 25 litre tub if they can take the same oil, but I guess they won't. Also, I note that the desired amount for both cars involves buying two 4/5l itre tubs of oil for each, hence wondering if a 25l drum would be better and cheaper.

Re: engine oil
I would make sure the tct has at least semi synth because of the turbo, something like 15-40 is about right, the derv will be fine with any old rubbish really as the turbocharger doesnt run as hot.

I've been running the 2.1 on whatever is cheapest and on offer - currently it is Total diesel oil.Dean wrote:I would make sure the tct has at least semi synth because of the turbo, something like 15-40 is about right, the derv will be fine with any old rubbish really as the turbocharger doesnt run as hot.

I'll go the semi synth route on the petrol then.

15W40 Mineral oil is what I use on everything in my list of cars below. Change the oil every 4K miles and you will be fine. Buy oil and filters in bulk, and its a cheap way of keeping everything right.

Re: engine oil
I use Comma semi synthetic for the diesels, about £13.00 courtsey of Trago Mills, its rated CF4 which is adequate for these engines.

Re: engine oil
I wouldn't run any turbo engine on anything less than semi-synth, so far mine are on full synth.

20 litres of 15w40 semi-synthetic for £56.82 is as cheap as I can find.
