1998 2.0 Turbo VSX AUTO Hatchback For Sale (E-Bay)

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I have had 2.1 Manuals and mostly Autos, they are fine. But the 2.5 is the way forward!! It is leagues ahead of the the 2.1! For our 4 Cylinder petrol lovers out there, its like going from a 2.0 8V to the TCT. The 8V is adequate, but the TCT is much faster!

I used to sing the praises of the 2.1 my allegiances have changed big time. I am now tramping 700 miles a week onto the 2.5 estate, and would dread doing it in the 2.1. The 2.5 allows for great progress, and safe overtaking, and for the same economy as a 2.1 Auto driven gently. A 2.1 would use more diesel than the 2.5 trying to keep up with it. Ohh yes, its also much smoother, and more refined than the 2.1

As for the maintenance side of things, so far I am finding the 2.5 easier to work on believe it or not. Changing the timing belt and balancer shaft belt on the 2.5 is much easier than doing the timing belt on the 2.1. Glow plugs, a relative doddle compared to the 2.1 with a Bosch pump!

John isnt going to be happy with you Robert, its taken him years to build up the reputation of the 2.5's being unreliable and hard to work on and you've just smashed all that in one post.

Ha ha!

John is an expert, he will have everyone thinking the 2.1 TD is the best car out there, and then tell everyone how expensive and how hard 2.5 spares are!

Then again, LHD C6s are coming ever close to the affordable mark, and are roughly 2K cheaper on the le bon coin than they are here, granted with slightly higher mileages, but you have choice! 2.2 170 BHP Manual C6 anyone??

Even Andrew could find a non leather 2.2 manual for (relative) small beans if he wanted!!! ;) ;) ;)

You could cope with a 3.0 Petrol Auto though!

A French man who is living over here with his LHD XM left it with me to get a couple of jobs done earlier this year, I kept it a couple of days so I could try out a LHD car on my home turf. The LHD action was good on the whole, and even more surprising, was that there was no penalty from the insurers! He has a '96 2.5 Exclusive hatch, at the time I was running the '98 2.5 Exclusive hatch, the insurers were quoting less for the LHD car because it was 2 year older than my RHD car!!!!

i do like an auto but the only annoying thing about the electronic box is it wont pick a gear and stick with it, every time you look at the throttle it upshifts dowshifts locks the torque converter or does something else, if it was manual i was driving i wouldnt change gear evry 3 seconds i would just put it in 5th and drive, great boxes they really are but that does annoy me when driving them.

I would push through though

Erm, Dean !
Have you forgotten about me ?

Many times I've told Robert that the 2.5 TD's 'are for winner's' and I've even made that statement on several threads !

 Dean, type in the search field WINNERS (I've even put the link in for you) and check out my post's ;)

I rest my case !

It seems that my anti-sales pitch for 2.5's has been rumbled.
Just as well that I have got my last 3 purchases all lined up while the rock bottom prices held.
Not so many good ones out there now so have a care to check it out well if you fancy one.
Not easy to spot a real bargin so for the diesel fans a good 2.1 might be cheaper in the long run than a bad 2.5.

John
