I'm after a set of rear brake pads for my XM. I need some to fit a year 2000 V6 24v. I think that this is the same size as the 2.5TD.
Citroen parts only have them on order at around £80!.
Now the part number I need is 4251 83. This part number seems to be unique to this car.
But when I look on ebay it seems that the pattern part pads will fit any XM!
This can't be right as the rear brake disc for this car is 4246 T3 which is given a diameter of 232mm. Wheras other XMs have a disc diameter of 224mm.
All the pattern parts for this car give the measurements as 224mm and Citroen label this as NFP and have no stock anywhere anymore.
What is the best way forward?
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve
Have a look on the EBC website http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/car/part ... 97-2000%29
Sorry - looking a bit closer they offer only one type of rear pad which can't be right for different diameter discs - over to the 2.5 owners for the true story I think!

Hi Steve
You have it right with the bad news.
Most 2.5 and V6's use the standard brake pads.
Unfortunately for you very late on in production Citroen changed the size and design of disks, calipers and pads on the large engined XM's.
From ORGA 7483 2.5 and V6 fronts changed on cars and estates while just the rears disks and pads on cars.
That suggests that the car rear calipers stayed the same just took larger pads.
This information is taken from the 1998 Model year presentation.

Re: Are all rear brake pads the same?
This is news to me, I wrongly assumed that hatchbacks had the same pads throughout. The more commonly available rear pads are the same as Xantia, BX and CX.

Hi Steve, go http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/rear-br ... 956.2.html. They cross reference to the cit number and give dimensional information. Put in your reg and they will be correct. From £8 to £30, and 30% off at the moment with fixed price delivery. I order at the weekend and parts arrive Thursday morning Fedex.
