window gearbox broken

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

window gearbox broken

Post by bobtee » Fri Jul 20, 2012 1:23 pm

Hello everybody I find myself in need of a working motor/gearbox assembly for my drivers door window winder.
I stripped it down yesterday and was surprised to find the cables ok if a little rusty on the drum, the fault lies at the gearbox plastic pinion which has sheared off at the base ,not too easy to notice until i grabbed the pinion when the motor was energised and turning ,the motor carried on running but the pinion stopped, on close inspection you can see the pinion is not quite perpendicular and a break around the base.
Ho Hum. happy to part with cash if anything is available thanks and best wishes Bob.

A bit expensive you should be able to find cheaper, I think I have one here but don't know which door its for.

Hi Peter thanks for the info ,I just looked on that site but the motors all look different to mine I have a large black plastic case fitted paralell to the motor with the wiring socket in the base.
Do you have any idea how to attach a photo on here?
Thanks again Bob.

Hi Bob

You have a Mk2 VSX or exclusive type winder.
There are other posts on here about those including photos.
There are also two different versions of the electrical plug.
Will see if I can find a link to the posts.
Bad news is that those winders are expensive, see WHM's advert.
I will have a look through my spares pile to see if I have the bits you need to repair yours.

Can you not repair the pinion by drilling it and passing wire through, then gluing with epoxy adhesive.

The support wire makes all the difference.

Here we go again

Its high time someone could start a 'FAQ' - 'Sticky list' (As I've already stated on many of occasions) and IMHO the '9-pin' drivers door window regulator problem should be nailed with a 6" nail at the top of the list

Bob, if you read thro' the links below (Including the links within) it should give you (and others) a comprehensive overview of the common wire failure problem !

Links:- # ONE, # TWO and # THREE

All we need to know if yours is the early type with the S/S clip type connector plug or the one with the Red 'Cam-lock' type which where fitted to the later models ?

Johns ref. to WHM are sellers/breakers of XM's, I've checked WHM's E-Bay listing and they have no 9-Pin types listed, but I have a an earlier S/S clip type connector plug, window regulator available !

So just in-case you missed Roberts E-Bay link (With Photo's), within the forum thread links /\ and for everyone's convenience, I've copied Roberts photo/links into this post (I hope that's okay with you Robert ?) if so don't delete your 'Photo-bucket' images ;)

EARLY S2 - 9 Pin Window Regulator :-

LATER S2 - 9 Pin Window Regulator :-

I hope the /\ will be of help to identify which one they have (If not now possibly for future ref.) !
