Re: For Sale N451XDC
I must admit that looks an exceptionally nice car - pity its a hatch and a 2.5
When it gets to about a third of that price I expect John will have it

I can't agree this is too much money for such a car. We're all spoiled driving XM's. You won't find anything like this from this millennium except some (semi)banger. I'd love to buy it...but 2.5's aren't exactly friendly to work on and parts are getting hard to find so..

Peter, I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you (If you have not owned and driven one for many many years) you wouldn't had the experience and the real pleasure of what the 2.5TD has to offer in comparison to the 2.1TD version !Peter.N. wrote:I must admit that looks an exceptionally nice car - pity its a hatch and a 2.5When it gets to about a third of that price I expect John will have it

I've had my first one now (VSX) hatchback, for over 11 years which is still my daily driver, plus I have an Exclusive model too.
Nearly forgot to mention I briefly had the ownership of an Estate S1.5 2.1TD fitted with a sluuuuuuuuuuugomatic box, boy was that slow, although it was a one owner low mileage and in superb condition I was glad when I got shut of it, I also found it just a bit to long especially when trying to find a parking slot in the middle of a busy city to park up quickly for half an hour or so !
Robert, I totally agree with you and now that your a convert to the 2.5TD's you know how saying go's "The one for winners" and I'm sure this reasonable priced superb example will not be For Sale, for very long !robert_e_smart wrote:That is a lovely car! With a lovely engine!

It is a pleasant enough car but I am not a fan of the colour nor the wheels.

Hi All
An interesting advert that displays the cars good points well.
Spec is good (exclusive plus) and close to my ideal except the body colour.
Visual appearance suggest that it has been well looked after.
At good money I would want to subject any XM to a rather aggressive under body rust check on a lift.
Up to 5 years ago I would have accepted a visual inspection but recent experience has made me very wary of body shell rust.
Be a real pity to poke around under that one with a sharp object so not for me.

Don't get me wrong, I have driven a 2.5 and I think they are a lovely car but not fit fo my purpose, the manual 2.1 has adequate performance for my needs and is also simpler and cheaper to maintain if you I doing a lot of miles, which I was with 2.1,s.XMX wrote:Peter, I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you (If you have not owned and driven one for many many years) you wouldn't had the experience and the real pleasure of what the 2.5TD has to offer in comparison to the 2.1TD version !Peter.N. wrote:I must admit that looks an exceptionally nice car - pity its a hatch and a 2.5When it gets to about a third of that price I expect John will have it

I have the same problem with the 2.2 Hdi, lovely smooth engine, plenty of oomph but relatively poor fuel consumption compared with the 2.0 Hdi - or even the 2.1 XM, my requirement is economy so nice as it is I shall be changing it for a 2.0L.
Oh, and by the way, I do like the colour of that 2.5, especially when its as shiny as that.

Re: For Sale N451XDC
That 2.5 hatch is what my old one must have looked like many years ago!
I am getting 41mpg according to the trip computer on my car, and rough mpg calcs are similar too.
My 2.1 Auto would do 41mpg in similar use, but driven more gently and slower. It would be doing 39mpg if I drove it as hard as the 2.5.
I find the 2.1 manual only gives me 2mpg over what the 2.5 gives.
I also agree with John on the under body inspection, it would need a good going over as well.
I don't mind the colour or wheels at all. I'd have any colour Xm as long as it was in superb condition.
