XM's self repair!

Post by captainhaddock » Sun Jul 29, 2012 12:00 pm

A lot has been written about the window regulators or cables braking and our XM seemed to have developed this problem as well.

I didn't get round to go and fiddle with it (since I've been at it too much at other models like Saab's, CX's, Xantia's even..)
Today my wife (Yes I got to drive it!) touched the button and...............................after months of not working, the window decided to work as it should!!
Strange but true.

Now, I think I need to grease something in there but for now, I do not need to buy another cable which I intended to do.

Happy days!

Got to love intermittent problems. You just wait until its a particularly warm day and it will stop working again

You sure it's not an electrical fault?

Warm in Ireland? No chance :( I took the door panel off tonight and checked the bloody system. Hadn't been touched before. Greased the lot, it was all I can do cause everything is working as it should. Also used spray can with grease on other window so that one is gliding faster now than before. Won't hurt only greasy windows now!
I can't think it to be an electrical fault, both switches that operate that window should at least work one. Passengers door AND drivers door got reaction but couldn't move it, so something got stuck. Some noises were heard before it happened, they seem to be gone for now.

Check the white nylon window clip isn't broken and jamming as a result.

Its not uncommon to have a bad connection at the main motor wiring plug.
