Hi Mathew,

I think the V6 is a particular market, and very small, most likely because of the rediculas price of fuel at 1.40ppl avereage, and 25mpg, makes it a rather expansive drive as you have admitted yourself.

Im sure no doubt if you hold out the right buyer will come along ..

It's unfortunate to see that it's not got any bids yet Matthew however this particular auction reminds me a bit of my old Series 1 V6 Si which was also a 12V Auto. Although I must admit that your SEi is a much better car in terms of the colour and it having leather too (also not being a Cat C like my one was) it seems that unfortunately the 12V Autos do not appeal to people in the way that other models of XMs do. The mileage (56,000 Miles) of my old car would have helped however overall condition is king and even though yours has higher mileage it's condition does not show that.

Just noticed that its in Cars category, as opposed to Classic Cars so unless people are searching for Citroen XMs in particular that might have limited the audience too...

Good luck with the sale and hopefully the bids come late! One way that does normally get people moving is a low start (99p) and no reserve and then people seem to get auction fever!

I find it quite odd that there are no bids on your car Matthew, it is a real stunner and very rare. I guess the market for XMs is a bit slow, but what an XM to have, a V6 XM has to be among the best!? A very special car and hopefully it will find a new home soon.

You project 'sounds' a very interesting one and I can see why you want to make space/funds to make it happen. Plus your XM fleet contains some other very appealing cars.

It's not too bad, and sometimes brings better results than starting at price that you want - also works a bit better because then the bidders determine what they think it is worth, as opposed to what you want by starting it at a price that you think it is worth. Also, if it's not up to an amount that you think isn't enough then you can end the auction (as long as it's got over 12 hours remaining).

Petrol I think is the big issue. It just keeps going up. Not to mention all this prattle about being in recession still....it does more damage to consuming than people realize I think. I have noticed a big difference to this time last year.
This XM though is a show car to be kept for sunny days, I just hope it goes to someone who will look after it and not allow it to fall in to disrepair.

Exactly, few people will buy this car for their one and only daily driver, so fuel use is less of an issue, I feel.

I dont use my petrol Xantias every day, they would prove too expensive to cover the miles, but they do get frequent use and are so nice to use. The diesels are very good but petrols are such a nice change to drive and really give a car a totally different nature.

I guess perhaps there is not the money to go around indulging in hobby cars at the moment. Which is a shame for people selling cars as they are taking longer to get interest and seem to be going for a lower price than previous. Ideal if your buying though!

Many thanks for your comments guys and as the car did not sell I am making one further offer on a three day listing with a realistic (I think) starting price and no reserve. I agree that most people will not be buying as a daily drive therefore the cost of fuel is a less important issue, but I suppose show cars are a luxury item nowadays! If there are no bids I will be happy to keep her in my fleet, especially as any series one V6 is such a rare thing now and the only XM with widely recognized classic car status.
