Re: An XM is now mine!
Rohan, you should be able to get Dexron 2 at your local motor factors. I bought mine for £17 for 5 lts. Auto fluid change is easy enough to do. Whislt it's up on ramps give the underside a good cleaning. I removed the under tray and cleared away any corrosion with a rotary wire wheel and then sprayed copious amount of waxoyl over the front subframe. Same again for the back end. Easier if you drop the spare wheel and remover the carrier and again clear away corrosion and spray with waxoyl. A very messy, but surprisingly satisfying way to spend an afternoon.

If fitted, remove the under tray and Throw it AWAY! They encourage rust on the subframe badly! I religiously reomve the damm things!
As for fluid change on these auto box's it couldnt be easyer... theres no need for a computer or anything, remove the cover underneath - circular with 3 10mm nuts, pop it off CAREFULL the fluid will pour out and all down your arm if your not quick enough... then pull the filter down and out... clean it, push it back in, re fit the cover.. and refill..
The tip for refilling, fit a pipe to the bottom of a funnel... check the level, and off you go!

Rohan, A good Dexron II is Comma AQM (in the red can as I showed you). Any decent factor should stock it.
I should have shown you my special filling funnel too; an exact version of what Paul has just described
And Paul is right, it's a far easier job than it might at first look!

Fabulous! I bet you're just as happy with your 2.1 TD AUTO as I am ~ got a very nice one last week as well!
I do understand people who think they are on the slow side. Having said that, I am totally happy with its performance . If I want to go racing, I just take another model
I wish you all the luck with it! What's the story about the pre heater, where's that thing located? I must make a new topic about mine soon. Anyway congratulations and lots of fun with it!

Have a look at the inlet manifold, and over the the GEARBOX end, just below the manifold on the SIDE of the cylinder head theres a "Box" with two pipes pointing out towards you...
If the fuel system is already running through it, the fuel pipes run along the back of the manifold and into the top pipe, then out of the heater to the in side of the fuel filter thats bolted to the battery tray...
Have a look at the engine bay below....

Follow the throttle cable, as it curves round, passes over the pipe from the fuel filter you can just see the heater outlets below there....

Yes, it is. I can confirm that Cap'n. I spotted it was as oddly one of the pipes is still attached to it (but open at it's other end) and that was what caught my attention when I looked at the car with Rohan.captainhaddock wrote:OK, I had to read this a few times but I do get it now, !. Hi everyone,
Thanks for all of the comments and advice so far.
I would love to post more but I am currently on a boat on the River Clyde waiting to watch a Peter Gabriel-era Genesis tribute band. And having a drink or two.
I am going to take good care of this car. I really like it. One odd thing I noticed is that it doesn't have the plunger to prime the diesel, it has a rubber grenade-shaped pump, like on the Lucas Epic cars.....

Well Rohan its about time
It looks like a lovely car and is serving you well, i must admit with my one, it is slower than most of the stuff ive driven but you are right, its how you drive it, you just except the fact its a cruiser and enjoy it for its smooth effortless drive and super french weirdness, i need mine back on the road again asap.
I took a ride with Dave in his 2.1 auto at cxm and thats the first time ive been in an xm for over a year, such a nice feeling car, even as a passenger!
Good luck with it, you have bought well.

Looks like a nice car! And its a bosch so can run on veg!
The windows could be something nice and simple like dodgy switches! (ask me how I know!)
If you have trouble finding a washer cover let me know.
