A small gift.

Post by Rommel » Sat Oct 20, 2012 1:06 pm

Well chaps, I am very much loving the XM experience. So relaxing. The bad thing is....now I'd like another one! A TCT to keep my speed monster side happy. It's a contrary thought though as the reason I wanted an XM in the first place was to "quieten down  " my driving. To that end it has been an entirely successful venture. But the thought of the XM ride comfort mixed with stupendous torque and speed had got me drooling ( this is usually the point at which someone says "get a 2.5" but I like the petrol idea....)

Anyway, back to the point- whilst I was in the supermarket car park (of all places- parked far away from the shopping trolly mobs) I decided to have a quick look under the XM to see the condition of the tyre carrier. Not only did it look fairly robust (a bit of surface rust but nothing structural), but I noticed that I have another Wobbly Web for a spare rather than a steel wheel! :D :D

No, admittedly it's hardly the most momentous XM news, but it certainly brightened up my day.

I haven't had a wheel carrier like that for years so hopefully that should bode well for the rest of the car. Nice to have a matching spare as well.

Hi Rohan

Pleased you are enjoying the XM.
Bit worrying that the bug has bitten so quickly though.
There is no rush about a second one.
There are still quite a few Mk2 TCT's and 2.5's being offered particularly estates.
I also think the prices of those are also still well down even on the XM scale.

Rather than get a second car, I would have a fiddle with the fueling on the one you have, that will give the best of both worlds in one car.

Hi Rohan,
Glad to hear you have made the right decision and that the XM bug has well and truly bitten!
I too have a small hankering for a petrol especially a manual. I would love a V6, but I think that might be a bit of a pipe dream to be honest. On a mk1 VSX Xantia binge currently too.... oh dear!

Lucky you having a wobbley webb as a spare. I wish I had one. The scabby looking spare is on mine at the mo. I do have a set of the disc hubcaps...so I could pop one of those on. However it will then have a confused identity!!... At least it has a Michelin tyre! ;)
My carrier is a little crusty round the edges. I need to whip it off and treat it and paint it up. worth while doing as these things can quite literary disappear... Good job your's is okay.

Sounds like you have chosen well, despite the spooky numbers.

Excellent stuff Rohan. I'm not at all surprised the XM bug has bitten so hard :D It has with me...

Due to mine being half-way through a cat re-fit I have tio use a Xantia this evening

Chrisjvm on the FCF has a nice TCT for sale ;) He's replaced it with an Activa...

I think the TCT goes nicely with an XM. Its not a performance rocket ship but it has the legs on a 2.1TD. Though I am comparing a TCT auto to a 2.1TD manual there .... I have driven a TCT manual XM and really liked the combination, I would certainly have another.

My TCT Xantia goes very well indeed, I love its engine.

Nice find on the wheel, ideal even to replace one of your road wheels should one become damaged. They can be very hard to find now.
Chris.

Strictly speaking Rohans car should have V6-24v type wheels.

I could kick myself now for turning down the 2.1 td Auto Exclusive i was going to buy before the mandarin one. I blame you lot, you all said don't buy one that needs a head gasket doing. :p

No question of the S1 being what I was after, which was another sticking point...but at £65 for a rust free car, I should have had it anyway.
