Re: Me, something serious something not..
Paul,
I have four cars on a multicar policy and it is definitely cheaper than individual ones. I wouldn't bother with classic policies as A: they are too restrictive and B: they never attach any NCD and C: they aren't any cheaper.
All my cars are insured comprehensively including business use.
I would have thought you would have a Trade policy, that way you can drive any car, anytime.

Ok Will, get a quote on the 24v XM Manual V6, limited to 5k miles I think.. £20 a month with NO no claims. Im rather happy with that as Im not likely to do that sort of milage in her...
However, a global policy would be for any car that comes in and out..
Have you tried gettin a trade policy! ....... Oh yes Mr Roberts, we will call you back! ... 6 months later still waiting! Cant be bothered chasing on the phone all the time..
For some reason I cant find a decent On Line Only trade insurance company..

Re: Me, something serious something not..
I would need to check my figures as having four cars under one premium clouds it a bit, but iirc the Xm's are about £200 for comprehensive insurance with business use and 10k and 5k miles p.a.citroenxm wrote:Ok Will, get a quote on the 24v XM Manual V6, limited to 5k miles I think.. £20 a month with NO no claims. I also have breakdown cover so the basic policy cost is even more clouded.

On subject of not insurance cover if you fail your MOT.....
Practical Classics Magazine quotes..
" If you take your car to be tested before your existing MOT expires, and it fails, your insurance could be void. Despite still having a valid MOT.
So Some insurers...not all ( a glimer of hope!) regard an MOT failure at any time as rendering cover void. It completely contradicts VOSA's view....MOT certificate remains valid for the duration specified on that certificate, irrespective of what MOT documentation was issued subsequently.
VOSA says, when considering failure defects, these may or may not be sufficient to render the vehicle unroadworthy (illegal).
They asked a person from Heritage Classic Car insurance, and they said, "most insurers they work with would regard any continued use after an MOT failure as driving with knowledge of a defect in the vehicle...which would invalidate cover."
The insurance is in force unless the insurance company writes to you giving a deadline date when the policy will be terminated. It's a legal contract, the insurance company can't just decide it is invalid due to a defect. However, driving a car in an unroadworthy condition is an offense and could invalidate one's insurance, but there are many failure points that are not classed as dangerous.
Often journalists know nothing about the law and love to scaremonger.
But once again..it makes something we all thought was straight forward rather cloudy and uncertain.
Is your car insurance with Admiral multicar by the way. I've often wondered the benefits of this.

Re: Me, something serious something not..
I saw that piece in Practical Classics and thought the same as you Will. A bit of journalistic licence I suspect. Why let facts get in the way of a good story...
My premium is very clouded by having a 17 year old daughter on the policy. Her price at £800 or so for a Nissan Pixo is actually rather good. The Activa costs me £220 and the XM £330 due to it being modified by the fitment of LPG
So far, all in all and given I have Siany to insure for another year, I can't currently beat them.
I'm with them Russ and have been for several years. I find both their prices good and also their customer service - so long as you speak to their call centres in Cardiff or Halifax, Nova Scotia - is very good.russ92xmsed wrote: Is your car insurance with Admiral multicar by the way. Yes it is, but I will be giving Aviva the chance to quote on renewal.russ92xmsed wrote:

I have Paul
Well I have been with Admiral since 2008. They always come up with the cheapest quotes on every car.
I never trust their renewal price and always shop around, but in the end it's the best.
Not had an issue yet with them.
A friend of mine had her classic Mini cooper smashed and it was whisked off to be fixed, only they lost it. How can you loose a car! Anyway it was recovered and sent to a specialist to be fixed.
Otherwise i think they are fine.
I have tried Norwich union several times (I refuse to call them Aviva) and they always come out stupidly expensive.

Re: Me, not so serious to start with - then car insurance ch
The wording for exemption from Road Tax is not just to and from MOT, it also includes moving to and from a recognised place of repair.
Presumably this is in recognition that quite a few MOT stations are test only, no repairs.
Moving a vehicle formally declared as Dangerous by driving it on a public road is illegal.
It will also invalidate any insurance held under the cover all failure to notify the insurer of actual risk.
No need for a special clause, no need for an accident caused by the dangerous item.
The responsibility of the insured to report applies to any changes of risk at any time during the policy.
Breach that term and it is the insured that has broken the contract and terminated the policy (with immediate effect) not the insurance company.
The VOSA guide to the VIC check covers this in some detail.
They recognise that many vehicles are fit and may be driven to and from the checks under the MOT rules for untaxed vehicles.
They also go into some detail about those vehicles that because of condition must be trailered to and from checks.
You may be interested to know that I always include driving untaxed SORN vehicles to and from MOT on the declaration of risk at policy renewal.
In the same way I declare the postcode of the gated field mentioned by Peter as one of my car storage locations.
