Re: Xantia
Any diagrams you need Jaap, just shout! Certainly the transponder one.
It's an odd one with the fusebox. It seems always to look perfect and I've not seen one that's faulty to be able to break it open and see why. I've opened a good one and cannot really see what can fail in it... I guess one of the springy bits that makes contact with the fuse blades might get a bit weak and loose contact.
One thing I do when checking things is to prick the cable under suspicion with a small and sharp needle to make a test connection. In this way you really know that voltage is either present or not present!
The tiny hole left by the needle seems to 'heal up' and not cause any bother...

Re: Xantia
Well Jim, the transponder diagram I actually would like to have. Thanks a lot for the offer.
One more day and I will be off in the XM, so won't be doing anything with it until next year. Strangely enough a colleague of mine who drove a Xara for years and years and sold it, has so much regret about it that she was inquiring after my xara(xantia)...she had found out I can fix them. I don't know how she could possibly know this because I never talk cars at work and can't remember ever, saying anything about such thing to any of them. I only mentioned once that I don't need garages but that's years ago. I do on occasion have to tell them that strange noises from the brakes from cars, actually occur if you drive with 100% worn brake pads (so much for KIA with their religious servicing schedule to keep the 7 year warranty - sending these ladies on the roads with these cars, paying top dollars for it, guaranteed
I would give her the car if fixed, because I want to go driving Robert's XM which is truly nice! Wouldn't mind fixing the xantia for her at all, time permitting. It is a nice lady that does need some charity after loosing just about all after all her lifes work - read pension evaporated thanks to our lovely Irish gambling banks
ps I'm not starting a Xara topic but about 10 years ago she bought this xara and after a few weeks, the engine went on this immaculate car. Some dealer /garage idiot, had put 5W synthatic oil or some totally wrong oil in it....so much for her car loan she had to go to the bank again...
I'd like to GIVE her my old Xantia so she can sell her Kia and pay off some loans

Re: Xantia
Very generous of you Jaap. But surely she must have had some compensation from the mechanic, for the neglect of putting wrong oil in the Xsara.

No she didn't. Money, matters, more. Greed destroys. My Xantia is worth nothing more than scrap value. Now, and when fixed.

Re: Xantia
Really doesn't help when you get stupid mechanics not doing the job properly.
I'm sure she will enjoy it Jaap. Good for you.

Re: Xantia
Japp, I'll dig the transponder and Engine ECU circuits out for you but I need to know what engine and injection it is to get the right ones... And then, all the help you need in fixing it.
Indeed, good on you Jaap, excellent

Re: Xantia
It's a 1.8 16valve 1998 injection, last 8 of the VIN number is 72016180. As said it'll be next year before I can do anything in between jobbies.
It's a sad sight here, the trusty Xantia doesn't 'look' it at the moment.
Got her 3 Hankook winter tyres under the XM now and one Chinese
new one.
Wales here we come....hopefully the Stena line will still go

Re: Xantia
Great stuff Jaap. I'll get 'em dug out...
Enjoy your trip, especially Wales
And if you get a chance do the route over Snowden I did last week!
If you find yourself near Junction 14 of the M1 by the Newport Pagnell Services whilst in England then do let me know, you can pop round for a quick cuppa and a chat
- I'm just a short distance from the junction.

Re: Xantia
Thank you but am not close. You didn't tell me you don't need to bother with winter tyres in the UK, it's like summer temperatures in Ireland here:) Portsmouth is very nice, stumbled into Jamie Olivers citroen HY bus. XM doing normal, as expected. Last time in Millton Keynes I got snowed in there.

Re: Xantia
Today I spared the cold XM auto box by pulling my old trusty xantia away from our drive by a citroen 2cv.
Anyone in need of anything xantia, let me know. But I'm not much in the mood of doing too much anymore on her ( I mean getting engines out, getting underneath...etc.)
Nice Activa alloy rims with very new tyres I will still have to take off her. She's going pretty soon now to the ovens
but she had a good life with us
