XM Sedan!!

Post by MTXM » Fri Jan 18, 2013 9:42 pm

I had not spotted this before and would be interested to hear what people think. Apparently Citroen did seriously contemplate making this car! I think I prefer the original idea. Regards, Matthew T.

Was intended for the American market wasn't it?
For me the proportions are not right. It needs a longer rear over hang. If it were based on the estate length, then that might have worked better. Might have to do something on photoshop and experiment.

First reaction: no thanks. Have to say though, citroens grow upon you over the years; what I found ugly years ago, I appreciate more now. But I remain, it's too standard, too boring. So I remain, good idea citroen didn't go fot that. Just my thoughts :)

My reaction would be to burn it immediately.

I experimented and failed.
It looked a little better on an estate length, but even then it looked too long. But I think the shape is not meant to be a saloon. It just does not convert very nicely....infact looks rather dull.

Don't ask to see it...it's been banished to my trash bin & lost forever.

I did not think there would be much enthusiasm for the idea, but quite interesting nevertheless!! Regards, Matthew T.

To me it seems like an XM with a Pug 605 back end.
No mention in the EPA book on XM design.
In fact the XM spec quoted specifically excluded a 3 box design.
It required the designer to produce the equivalent of a separate boot from a 2 box design.
That is the history behind the extra internal window in the XM.
PSA main board authorised the design and production of the XM not Citroen board.
PSA main board then went on to authorise the Pug 605 using a variant of the XM body shell.
I cannot believe that Citroen had any delegated authority to propose a Citroen Sedan in direct compatition.
Perhaps though they were involved producing a design option for the 605 body.
If so no way would they put a lion on the nose.

The XM is a hard car to change.

Try this thread where I experimented.
Click on page 4 to see how I tried to make Gavin Green's preferred solution work.
It doesn't really. Nor does the car shown atop this here thread.
