Elizabeth's 2.0 SX

Post by captainhaddock » Sun Jan 06, 2013 5:34 pm

Today, I changed the timingbelt, pulleys, water pump and auxiliary belt on my wife's blue XM.

I wonder how such a job would cost at a regular garage. It always takes more time than you think, so I find.

I am pleased to say all is well again and the car drives smoothly along again. But not my THIRD Sealy multimeter, I had to bin it. It decided to measure nothing what so ever, like all the previous ones. The ABS sensor that measured 1 couple of days ago, I did tackle as well but the warning light is still on.

I did struggle to get the new self tensioning pulley on and can tell you that the picture on the instruction manual of the Gates set, does not correspond with reality. I have used them before on the Xantia where it does seem to be correct. Therefore the pointer is not at the acquired point, so don't let that alarm anyone in future.

Rust issues next...

I want to order spheres, tried GSF but they're sold out. Found another online supplier but want to check if front spheres are 50 bar. I am asking because the site isn't very clear and I don't want accumulator spheres for front spheres. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Order IFHS ones from AEP, I find there's work nicely.

Fronts should be 450cc at 50 Bar.

Be careful: Spheres are different for vehicles with simple hydraulic, or with "Hydroactiv"

part of quoted text:
...since this body roll limit now works irrespective of the spheres, it gave the designers
more freedom in choosing the spheres themselves. This might also be the reason for introducing 450 ccm spheres (they
are not used on non-Hydractive and Hydractive I cars), only on Hydractive II, after ORGA number 5929

Today, I managed to brake my sphere tool...my old trusty hand made sphere loosening tool....that managed to loosen countless spheres. So no new spheres fitted today. I shouldn't have put a extension pipe on it but the bloody things are .......tight. Not happy..I tried whatever I have left for tools as well, but I should have know they are a no-go today.
