Looks like the N/S strut top has failed and 'Speared' the bonnet so this is another one to add to list of N/S failed ones (Or ones which were potentially going to) rather than the usual O/S (U.K. drivers side) !

But the driver side may still be good/usable ?

:)

Maybe even the whole car would be a good buy if that's all that is wrong with it.

I agree with you Jim, as Paul has pointed out in THIS thread (I thought it looked familiar at the time when posting this post) :?

First time I see a series 2 like this..Don't want to think about when this happens when you're driving.

Here you go fella !

I've just searched some forum threads for you and found one when 'Minijet' (Paul's) MK2, O/S strut top made an unexpected appearance !
minijet wrote:.
I've been meaning to change the drivers side strut top on my green TCT exclusive for a while now, I bought a replacement some time ago.
But I've been putting it off and concentrating on the white SX and it's leaking exhaust gasket.

Well, time waits for no man, and today events overtook me.
The green one must have got jealous about all the care and attention I've been lavishing on the white one, and it decided to make a bold statement.....the bastard :x ......

So, now that the horse has bolted, I've decided to close the stable door
And I've fitted the replacement strut top........

Replacement bonnet, scuttle and end caps to add to the ever increasing number of jobs to do :( .

Bloody strut top bearings :x ........... :?

The above quote from THIS thread for ref, and if that wasn't to read thro' here's ANOTHER thread showing a photo of an O/S which has completely failed too :o

All a bit grim so keep a check on yours if there a bit suspect ?

 get yourself a pair of these (below) ordered or manufacture some yourself ;)

:~ thanks...depressing somewhat, isn't it..I've always wondered why people wouldn't come up with some sort prevention or other, like above. Didn't know some people apparently use chains..:) I should be able to design something, must have a think.
