I received a message from Xac this morning to say the server was down. No reason given. Xac is away all day but hopes to restart the server around six this evening...

It's down again today due to mains power problems in the locality where the servers live... This affects both the FCF and BXC.
Xac is now away until Monday.
In view of this, I'm now restoring the latest backups to our test/contingency servers and will have them on-air as soon as possible.
These are only emergency boards but hopefully we will be able to restore from these on Monday and thus synchronise the production and contingency boards.
I'll report more when done..

It is planned to return the BXC and FCF back to their normal servers tomorrow evening.
This is an announcement I've posted on both forums:
The Forum will be taken off-line at 19:30 prompt on Monday 11th February to enable an orderly close-down of the contingency servers and restoration of service to the normal servers.
We expect the outage to last 60 to 90 minutes but that depends on many factors. It could be down as long as two hours or more. During the outage you will be shown a forum that is off-line...
It is the intention that all posts made to the forum whilst running on the contingency servers will be restored to the normal forum/servers but a very small number of posts may inadvertently go missing. We do apologise if this happens. We shall do all we can to ensure any losses are as minimal as possible.
New member sign-ups will be again available once we are back on the normal servers.
We thank you for your cooperating during these times.
Wish us luck!!

FCF and BXC are down again today. Xac is presently away but will be back this afternoon and he’ll look at it as soon as he's home...
He believes the problem may lie with O2 as they are carrying out an upgrade in his locality...
I'll not be bringing up the contingency forums on this occasion...

Thanks Jim. Thank goodness for the XM forum! Onto XM news. The starter motor gave up the ghost last week after my trip to Stevenage and London. Repaired at a local garage (£=ouch!!) and the old girl has rewarded me by self destructing the window regulator on the drivers door. Off to Savoy garage this week for expert care from Malcom. XM's eh, don't you just love 'em!!

I know what you mean about the XM always throwing surprises Mark...
Mine decided to lock me out of the tailgate this afternoon, only to release itself about 10 minutes later all on its own
Went to look at a brake judder problem on another XM V6 today. Found the disc warped after just 1500 miles and worst thing is they're not exactly common or cheap for the V6... Then the airbag light came on for no good reason...
They certainly do have character and I guess that's why we love them so much..
The FCF and BXC are back up now

I've loads of posts over there to catch up on...

Are they definitely warped. Disks virtually never warp, but suffer from friction material deposition or not being flush with the hub.

Dial gauge says they are Will..
I've had warped discs on a Xantia in the past and again they failed when they were comparatively new..
