Yep

Two versions of the display, simple (grey 8 pin connector) and fuel useage etc (grey 15 pin connector).
First 8 pins of both types have identical signals so if you force the small plug into one end large connector it will work as a simple display.
Not a recommended practice I would add, I just modified a plug for display testing.

2 XM's are more complex than one Jim! :) Don't know why almost all of my citroens, have (had) clock problems and yes, including my 2 xantia's
