Central Locking Remote & Receiver

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Broke the button on my mk1 plipper it's a single button fob. I got it to work again but now I've broken the housing the button sat in. Will citroen do a replacement new fob on such an old car?

They would not be available from Citroen now but you might be able to cannibalise the bits you need from an old plip! Regards, Matthew T.

Hi All,

I've been without remote locking for a couple of years now so decided to investigate. I was expecting the fault to be related to corrosion of the receiver, dry joints and sort of thing but thought I'd check the forum first to see if IR systems are troublesome. I found this post and all the work John and others have put in so I thought that whilst I was fiddling around I's take some photos of the parts my 92 XM has fitted - hopefully they can be of use to somebody.

From reading Johns' notes it sounds as though this is the later IR system despite the label reading IR 1.

After fiddling around and reflowing the joints I got the car to lock and unlock a couple of times with the fob very close to the receiver but then even that failed. I've tried replacing the IR LED but that hasn't worked either, I think I need to track down another fob.

Thanks to John and others for putting this info online.

Steve.

To continue this thread, my remote central locking packed up last year. RP 5678 MK1. Last week i unplugged the 5 pin connector (4 wires: 12V, gnd, lock, unlock?) and removed the receiver box out. It was labelled Kiekert IR1 There was some evidence of water/blackening damage - I have photo. Optimistically, I cleaned it up but no joy. The led on the fob works so I tickled the joints with a soldering iron. Still no joy.

Some questions then...
Any ideas how I can tell whether my fob is actually transmitting something, and not just illuminating the led?
If I were to find a suitable replacement box labelled IR2, would I be able to bond my existing fob with the replacement receiver?
Does anyone have a spare & unwanted receiver (ir1 or ir2) & fob that works? or a spare IR2 receiver if its possible to re-bond to them.
steve

Point it at a digital camera /camera phone and watch the viewfinder as you operate the key.

TopMan Mr Dieselman. So i've discovered rather embarrassingly that I have dead batteries for starters but the camera suggestion works fine on a working fob (different car) - shows a blue light. So I now need to figure out why my fob is not working. steve

Forget messing with the poor infra red setup..

Buy a RF chineese kit and wire it in.. There is a guide on here from Ray Noon.. They are inexpensive.. And work very well and of course bang up to date with RF ...

After getting muddled with which fob belongs to which car, I have one working fob and one duff one and a duff receiver. If I could pick up a working used receiver and paired fob for a Mk1, i'd be happy. What puts me off the chinese kit is the hassle of wire it in.... running wires up the A pillar to the wires for the 5pin connector - I guess if you knew where they went you could splice into them? Then I read somewhere about fiddling around with rising edge or falling edge signals and adding diodes ... then a reference to smoke!

I think, my memory is a little hazzy on this, you can use a xantia ir reciever and code your existing key to it, i done the same thing with (i think) my car.............or the Activa.

A-pillar? No need... All the wiring is done under the dash panel near the handbrake release. The smoke was caused by a faulty unit and a novice trying to wire it in, the only 'difficult' bit was wiring in the hazard flash.... 2nd time round took half the time....
