For those who use/blend veggie/sunflower oil in the their oil burner !

I want to use veg oil, but just can't quite pluck the courage up to use it. Good price though.

It's OK in 2.1TD Bosch pumps but don't let it near a 2.1TD EPIC, they don't like it up 'em at all...

I'm not sure about the 2.5TD pump but believe it might be similar internally to the EPIC so again it might be a good idea to steer clear of it...

Not true Jim, the 2.5TD is a Bosch VP36, loves veg...I know cos I've done several thousand miles on it. It's almost exactly the same as the VP37 that's on my VW engined car that I've done 30k miles in.

Russ, if you have the Bosch pump in your 2.1 just go right ahead, there are no problems at all. You may need to change your fuel filter more often though as the veg oil acts as a natural cleaner.

72ppl is an excellent price too.

Excellent! I honestly didn’t know so I was playing safe. I'd have hated for a 2.5 owner to have run on veg, blown up the pump and then pointed a finger at me...

What Bosch pump then is a bit iffy on veg then? I believe there's one...

I do have a Bosch, so I'm sorted in that respect. I might slowly introduce it to it during the summer. No doubt the fuel prices will become so stupid, I might be forced too!

Once again, there are so many opinions on ratios ect, it is a mine field to try and do the best. I believe Dave ( the Rave) uses 100% veg ....the cloud of smoke at CXM was quite impressive! But then Campbell uses only a couple of litres to stretch out the diesel.

I will have to give it more thought.

The Xantia boys seem to find 50/50 in the spring and autumn is a good one Russ and up to 100% in the summer with no modifications at all.

Just one possible trouble: early pump seals are not veg-proof and once you start using high ratios of veg you may find the pump springing leaks due to O ring failure.

Re-sealed pumps have viton seals which are veg proof.

Elderly pumps can leak even if you don't use veg as modern diesel affects them too but veg will have a speedier effect.

Viton seals were introduced to cope with the modern diesel formulations that are known to attack some seal material.

Thanks Jim for the tip and advice. No idea what mine would have, with regards to o ring seals. Suppose the only way to find out is to try and see if it does eventually leak.
I would rather not do 100% veg in case anyway, but a 50/50 mix would be great. That should save some pennies!
