Headlining

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Yeah, contacted Sandbach. Apparently someone had already been and claimed most of the car. I wonder who that could be?

Not quite all UK cars had sunroofs Will as Jim's car shows, but most I grant you! I am sure you are right about the sunroof being factory fitted Eddie and the car is certainly very early (18 December 1989), so I guess my theory might be correct. The car I removed the light from was at Edwards & Son near Billericay in Essex but the headlining was black and that was a while ago. Regards, Matthew T.

The third option I am already on. Use a board from a car with the bigger light and cut it so the light hole would then be the same size as mine and add in some strong cardboard to marry up to the right size. Fairly straight forward. The problem is I would need a small amount of the same cloth or the cloth at the front part of the sunroof to enable me to marry up the cloth.
I have no idea if this will help you Eddie, considering you have already looked at a 1.5, but here is a pic for the mounting screw holes for the larger light unit.

Best of luck fixing the headlining. Sounds like you have quite a unique early car there. :)

Oops, I wasn't clear in my message. All uk XM upto 1998 MY had sunroofs, but then A/c became standard fit instead of a roof.

There was plenty left to share about after I left it, maybe someone else wanted more.

Headlining was good but in black, wheeltrims * 4, rear spoiler, 2nd back window and parcel shelf, all the mechanicals, including strut tops.

They were going to strip more bits off then weigh it in.

Phone again and check.

That is interesting Will and I guess the tiny numbers of UK cars sold meant they stopped bothering with sunroofs! Poor Eddie has to find either a very early sunroof car or very late non-sunroof car, of which neither will be easy to locate!! Regards, Matthew T.

If the aperture is the same size as a standard root, then any headlining will do.
My guess says a generic Webasto roof was used right through the model line. The roofs are definitely Webasto-Huliez.

Neil, go and measure the glass and aperture.

Outside to metal roof aperture = 905 * 500 mm
Inside to inner edge of lining = 767 * 410 mm.

If yours is only 730mm inside, there is a lot of glass covered up, are you sure of your measurement?
