ha ha! Shouldn't be too hard to find no? Just from a wreckers? I see that it has become a bit of a saga for you from your previous posts! Have you posted photos of your car yet? Is it the same colour as the one that I am interested in?

Hi Roland, welcome to the forum. Some very nice Gold XM's there you have found. Was the tan leather a real option in France. If it is genuine, get it as I have certainly never seen a leather interior that colour in an XM before.

The second one is just as interesting. The dash is actually brown. UK cars never got that. Which ever one you go for, it will be unique. Good luck!

As for strut tops. No they werent a design fault, it was simply water and air making rust and causing issues, and it happes throught the whole production life of XMs..

Not hard to check, and no its not under the bonnet you need to check.. you need to get the car on top setting and look in the wheel arch under the wing and the under side..

If they are bad you will see the rubber cones being pushed downwards out of the mount... OR, if they are really bad, the sphere will be getting close to the bulkhead

Bit like this one:

I think he is referring to the early strut tops not having the ability to interlock if the rubber gives way, as later ones do, unless corroded.

The one in the picture is an early strut top.

The very early diesel car is the most interesting and unique I think, partly as I am not keen on the tan leather, whilst the condition appears like new!! The very basic spec, brown interior and distinctive wheel trims would certainly stand out in the crowd! Regards, Matthew T.

Theres one of those in the local Scrap yard!! PROMISE! NOT Being broken either.

Its a K reg, in Black no sunroof and NO rear spoiler. On a K plate. I did take the full reg down..

I went to the dismantleing yard, same people, completely different site, to see the owner but he was a bit busy. I spoke to his wife about buying some XM and she said YES PLEASE DO!!! LOL.

I will go back again and try catch him when he is not busy.

On strut heads there was a design missjudgement on the very early ones.
This only affected the first few months XM production so unlikely to be very many uk cars.
Citroen only used 4 dimples in the head to fix it to the centre part.
They started seperating and bonnet poping in the first year of normal use.
As far as I know all were replaced with the standard 10 dimple fixing type.
I would be very surprised if any have survived whole in service.

I agree Matthew. The one you have taken the pics off, is the rare 2.1 non turbo. It has no centre console and that wonderfully strange brown interior. Bodily wise it looks really good. Unusual for a French owned car!

It needs to be bought!!!

If you can Paul ....you must take some pics of the one in your local scrappy. It must have some interesting history to be in that basic trim, in the UK on UK K plate. Shame we won't know....unless the scrap dealer knows anything.

The diesel one was sold a couple of years ago. Lovely car true, but I don't like diesel cars nor manual ones! I am going to ring the seller about the one with the tan leather interior, we even found a couple of champagne gold ones that are being wrecked here in France so if we do like the car then we will have some spare parts in the right colour, that rear passenger door needs replacing for a start. Not that one needs another car mind, but when has that stopped one buying another Citroën!!!?
