Fuel economy?

Post by Dieselman » Sun May 26, 2013 9:07 am

A friend may be interested in an XM, probably a 2.1TD, probably an estate.

Can those that keep any record say what economy they get from their cars. I don't brim my cars so can't really say.

I need to know the model, manual or auto and economy, please.

The best I have seen on a longish (300m) trip on mixed roads, keeping up to the speed limits and using a light right foot was 50mpg going by the EPIC fuel computer (manual 2.1TD Hatch). However the longer term figure I see is usually around 42mpg (mostly 20 to 100 mile local trips with the occasional 300 mile trip - all lightly loaded).

I've averaged 44 mpg up until now with an auto 2.1 tD Bosch pump. Taking it on a long trip next week, will keep record.

I get 700 miles a tank (about 78 litres) from the 2.1 td hatch and a similar figure from t 2.1 estate. Both manuals. About 41mpg with mixed driving and fast motorway work.

No you don't. You want a V6 ;)

I can see 35mpg out of mine on a decent run with a bit of care and avoidance of too much pressure on the loud pedal and fingers off the sport button...

Over the 5 years that I ran both I found that a V6 auto XM used 25% more fuel than a 2.5TD XM.
Deduct 4% for the fuel price difference and the V6's were about 20% more expensive to run.

None of the above will happen! Even now, I will drive like a saint for a few journeys to bank up enough reserve economy to drive like a hooligan for the friday commute!
