Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

My previous 1992 manual 2.1 TD hatchback (with every option and toy) was a heavy car but on mostly motorway driving it averaged 42 to 44mpg.
Our current M reg 2.1 hatchback Auto has averaged 40.9 mpg over the last 8,000 miles. I didn't think that was too bad for a 1.6 ton 'old skool' diesel auto. Some of my colleagues with much newer cars still only get between 42 to 44 mpg in their diesel Mondeos/Vectras/Passats so seems to me like new medium to large car sector fuel consumption isn't much to sing about.

1992 Rover 216 GTi twincam 16v 130 bhp. Unbreakable mechanicals, bodywork - less so.

2015 - Still waiting for the hover conversion kit but do wear two neckties at same time.

I regularly got 50-55mpg from our 2.1 Bosch pump engines on my estates going to Scotland, I am only getting about 60mpg from my 2.0 Hdi C5 so for an IDI engine its brilliant - I do drive pretty gently though.

I tend to hammer my cars - Forest-Central london in sub two hours, for example - so fuel consumption suffers - I'm happy with 41mpg, while running veg oil.

I can get 45-50 on a long run at 70mph though.

The TCT did 25mpg on average, but it was fun!

Russ, you were in the slow one! The hatch is surprisingly much, much faster! Perhaps, that's the one we'll use to go out to Coleford.

I was going by what the handbook and Haynes quotes although that might be for my previous XM which had heavier trim such as electric heated leather seats and electric windows all round plus air-con which adds weight. I suppose my 1995 XM with cloth interior and manual windows at the rear is a bit lighter. It's the 'toys' and other options that add up. I reckon it still tips the scales at 1500 kg.
