I agree Paul. The ad was not completely glowing....

I am too surprised Danny didn't squirrel that one away in his barn and wait for the right customer.

It could of course be the colour that is the issue....Some folk are suspicious of green cars...being bad luck. However...if you are a XM enthusiast and you hanker after a mk1 24V...then you won't miss the opportunity. Interesting it didn't reach reserve. Could be time of year...holidays ect.

I never knew that about green cars

Mind you, no practical experience of then either as of all the cars I've had over the past 35 years, and it's been a few, I've never had a green one.

I think welding is a skill we're all going to need to acquire as the XM gets older...

Where does it say it needs welding underneath?

The advert says it is largely rust free and has 12 months MOT.

The XM would benefit from some light cosmetics, but it's up and running and carries a full years MOT. More importantly it's largely rust free.

Are you thinking of the Brodie car Paul as I do not think this one needs any welding? The most significant body defect I noted was a damaged front jacking point. I think there is also a full MOT and even tax in place. Regards, Matthew T.

The Emerald can look a bit dour in certain lights but more than anything there are a lot of green XMs around! Regards, Matthew T.

I have to admit it is my least favourite XM colour.

I don't know why, but I am just a bit suspicious of the " largely rust free"... It just seems to suggest it is rusty underneath somewhere. Must be the jacking point you mention Matthew.

But it cannot be as bad as the other Mandarin one with the decaying sills.

That mandarin car has more rust than just the sills, the rear chassis rails are missing.

I think Danny's description is fair Russ and there really is very little rust on the car, except for the usual surface corrosion on the subframes and spare wheel carrier, although as I recall even those had been recently treated. The Brodie XM sounds like more of a donor project, ie. pick up a blown engine car with a good body and transfer the 24v bits across! Regards, Matthew T.
