Welcome Charles, i see the XM bug has bitten! An XM and SM, are a brilliant two car garage. I have always thought the XM was the car industries first retro design of the Sm....bit like the beetle and Fiat 500. the similarities visually are very obvious.

Very cool. Best of luck finding one. They are all good, but the engines give them all quite different characters.

Russ - the SM was/is such a futuristic design that it is the only car that can inspire a retro design that is still more advanced than contemporary cars! I did feel the similarities, certainly the ride had a lot in common, comfortable but taut. Anyway I can wax lyrical on the subject for hours. I happen to believe the SM, for all its little idiosyncrasies, to be the best car ever produced, if not the most practical. French engineering at its most uninhibited, imperative and confident.

A two car garage would be a novelty for me. I am trying to sell some, honest!

That's quite a collection of cars you have there Charles and an XM (or a Xantia) will slip in to that little lot very comfortably and be very at home..

Do have a look at the V6 Xantia. They are very, very good and extremely competent. Mine is my daily driver...

Your so right Charles. The SM is an incredible design, and is still very contemporary now. You could subtly modifiy it to make it look a little more contemporary, and launch it today, and it would I still look incredable and fresh. I still believe the XM is such a nice tribute to it, but it has it's own character too. Very clever I think.

I've sat in my neighbour's - I'm just a little too broad in the beam for my comfort.

Ahh now that's where the XM scores over the Xantia - the seats are wider and comfier generally..

Too wide for me actually. You could almost sit two of me on an XM seat...

Funnily enough, that's someone else's SM! A very pleasant father and son who were delighted to see me turn up in my gold one as they were very disappointed that there was only their one and the SM had been missed off the voting form.
