Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

My S1 2.1 SED was a Manchester car! Now, where's the sea there??? But its as bad as my 24v

My 24v was a Telford and Midlands car.. she was bad too!!! No sea there either!
Paul !

I think you misunderstand what Will is trying point out as being a vehicle which has spent a majority of its life in Scotland ;)

It does need much explaining that in general winter terms Scotland will get the worst of the winter weather each year and hence they salt and grit much more often than else where in the country !

As I know this for a fact whom my friend bought a 2.5 TD Exclusive from 'jackyboy' (Member of the other forum who lived in Perthshire Scotland before moving to 'Clacton-On-Sea' ) a few years ago and which did give my friend some very good service (Once the rusted out STRUT-TOPS were replaced) which he completely denied any knowledge of their condition

Here's the picture of the N/S Strut-top condition (Topside) :-

After being in better/competent hands and some TLC this XM did give my friend some very good years of service, however the rear end was looking rather 'Flaky' in places towards the end of his ownership so he decided it was best to part with it before a large welding bill which may have been looming for him.

My friend and I personally put the premature/advanced corrosion which was taking hold was due to the harsh winters it had been subjected to, being an XM which spent a good % of it time as a daily driver in 'Scotland' throughout the winter months when it lived there

Also Paul IYCR the fairly late White 2.5TD which Steve (SteelcityUK) bought from some area in Scotland too had the rusted out strut tops and also had flaky area's on the underside of the chassis/body !

Pauls look like tearing of the rubber but then the baseplate doesnt look right to me somehow, there are some strange lumps in the rubber coating and the top of the cone looks uneven and lumpy.

D

I rest my case (Along with Wills of course) !

Which means that the offer made at £1750 was nowhere near £1500 . . . and with the list of jobs to do I'm not surprised.

If i could get this for £500 i would go up in the lorry and have it, i would say the car is scrap but i dont think there is enough metal left for that, the running gear would transplant into K391 a treat though.

It could be driven away by someone with trade plates.

If a car has no MOT it can only be driven on the road if you are "testing following repair". Otherwise the car is not fit for the road.

Remaining jobs -
Attend to welding to sills and 2 box sections under boot floor which extend longitudinally to the rear bumper.
Take car for MoT
Sort various areas of peeling laquer to paintwork
Replace nsr door and paint (spare rustfree door supplied with car)
Recommission air con ( I did take this for assessment at our local specialist last summer - requires compressor, condensor and receiver/dryer.

That's still a fair amount of work for the price asked. Welding, paint and air con will not be cheap, and as for taking the car for MOT . . . how long is a piece of string (on a car you don't know).

Not for me at that price, needs to drop some more.

For you no neil its not. However. For me it is cheap because i can do the welding. The paint and air con aint gonna stopit from getting an mot. And as for needing all three air con items i find that hard. Dryer and condenser maybee but compressor too.. i could be wrong though..

Both Will and Patrick Rugg have inspected the car Paul and were not impressed and although in theory it could be repaired there would be more sense to transfer engine and box over to say a late tct, which is otherwise more or less the same.
If i could get this for £500 i would go up in the lorry and have it, i would say the car is scrap but i dont think there is enough metal left for that, the running gear would transplant into K391 a treat though.
If the car does have to be scrapped I would be interested in the exhaust system and anything else you do not use Dean!!
