I want to learn....

Post by Vince » Tue Aug 27, 2013 7:22 am

Guys,

After just reading the new practical classics magazine and the readers resto features, ive decided that I want to re-learn how to do a few jobs I once knew how to do but have forgotten over the years through lack of doing them.

What id mainly like to learn is:
1, How to weld
2, How to do mechanical jobs like coolant changes properly, do discs and pads, change belts, full LHM changes including flushing out the brakes
3, How to spray paint at home

What I thought would be a good idea is if anyone was doing a job on their xm and could teach me whilst they did it, id be grateful to pop over and learn "on the job"

Thoughts?....

I WANT TO RESTO THE XM PROPERLY......

Shot blasting kit looks good!

Why not speak to Paul as he is often working on his projects and an extra set of hands is always good :)

Only downside is travelling from your side of Manc could be a pain :(

Excellent Vince :D Wanting to learn is 99% of the secret of success.

I think learning from Paul is an excellent idea too. What he doesn't know is really not worth knowing...

Don't buy that spray kit, you will never use it.

If you want air, buy a decent compressor and some tools, but the reality is you can get by 99% of the time with hand tools.

A decent socket set is worth it's weight in gold, poor quality ones wreck fastenings and make the job harder.

Agreed. A bloody good socket set and a crack bar can't be beat. The same with spanners and Torx bits. May cost a wee bit more but worth it in the end.

Halfords pro tools always seem to be 1/2 price at the moment and good value for money :)

Aldi/lidl sometimes have compressors come up as well and used air tools on eBay can be quite cheap. An air impact gun is great on stubborn things.
