A bit more today.. while I had a dry spell..

Heater still nice and free, and really nice and smooth. The cogs do get a bit full of Dust, which helps jam it up. My SED project needs the same dooing too..

Anyway.. I think a Bomb went off...

We always say the engines are bomb proof!

All stripped down ready to remove. Need to locate a 3 notch multi layer head gasket now for the engine and then we are good to go..

However, during the strip down process, Im ever wondering how the electrics worked in the car at all, I discovered this on the engine fuse box..

Lucky, SOMEWHERE theres a much nicer one off the J reg car recently dismantled. Just need to remember where I put it..

Jeepers Paul I think that's a bit beyond a wire brush saving!

Are they just exposed to incoming airflow too much or hidden but not adequately covered up?

Its just a little plastic flap that covers them.. Its been stood a long time before I got it..

But I have another. The 10mm nuts wouldnt undo, so I had to remove the cable from the altinator and starter instead..

Hard at work but that coolant doesn't look very healthy..I guess the car has been neglected for a while..

Poor things, maybe a warning to other owners to grease them up as I guess the heat of current going across them would help keep them dry but only when taken for a decent run as short runs wouldn't help much other than the blast of heat from cranking but that surely would be more damaging with a quick expansion of the metal and then slowly cooling down again :(

That's quite interesting that crusty find Paul. Will have to keep an eye on that.
It always looks so drastic taking the whole front of the car off, but it is such a good design and way of getting to things.

I see the slabs are really coming into their own. Nice one.

How about building a tent over those slabs. I feel lucky with my garage but will do one repair out side today and will take the rain as it comes :)

That’s a good idea Jaap but I'd be inclined to go for something a little more semi-permanent. Get some wooden posts and corrugated sheeting and you could make a lovely dry work space...
