I can't see how the float would normally be in the vertical position if it is free to turn. I suspect it must have been jammed, somehow.

I wonder if Paul knows from fully stripping one Jaap? Sounds like a pendulum in there. Maybe it regulates the clock?captainhaddock wrote: Mine does this too! What can it possibly be...

Re: Mikes V6 ES9 Manual Exclusive
My XM is now in the UK for a short period, but we are very busy organising to move house, so I can't spend much time on it.
It really deserves some rustproofing, as it has been always garaged, and appears not to be familiar with salt.
I could slap some stuff on myself, but I am tempted to get a professional job done, as I am sure that with good high pressure application, the insides of the sills and box-sections would be much better protected.
I would probably use Before'nAfter because I had him do my e-type 10 years ago, and I was very happy with that job (but I suppose he sees many more e-types than XMs).
Any opinions that I should do something else?

My experience of using cans of Blit Hamber stuff suggest that it's not a bad idea to get the pros to do it Mike It's messy and unless you can get the car up high it's hard to know if you've done a good job..
I reckon yours is definitely worth the treatment!

Re: Mikes V6 ES9 Manual Exclusive
We have had a busy couple of weeks since CXM. Most of our furniture was packed and shipped of to New Zealand, and the contents of the garage had to be squeezed into the e-type and the XM. The e-type is currently in storage in the UK, and I drove the XM back to Burgundy...
There was not enough room on board for Louise, who had to take the train!
Then we had relatives to stay for a week, requiring ferrying around the local chateaux and cathederals.
I have spent most of the last week sorting out the garage stuff and assembling shelving for it.
The car has had a few nice outings though.
The next job is replacing the roof tiles on the garage, about 30% of them are frost damaged and crumbling.
I was going to post another couple of pictures (taken with the same camera), but the forum software says that they are invalid. I might link to them later.

Poor Louise making her travel by train when you could enjoy XM Luxury... Shame on you Mike
Must say the XM is pretty well packed though... Like an automotive Tetris game...

Another advantage of a Series 1, you can load the back window up and use the spoiler as a support bar...

Re: Mikes V6 ES9 Manual Exclusive
Another really bad photo, this time with the car loaded up with tiles to fix the garage roof. The garage being in a conservation area, it is necessary to use identical replacement materials. Luckily I found someone with tiles to match the 50 year old ones currently fitted.
I removed the back seat to make more room, but decided against filling to the roof for safety.
