Ive spotted a rather nice 1991 XM SED 2.1 Hatch in silver with 1 owner and comprehensive service history the price
is not out of reach she has 9 months MOT to, I have definitely learnt my lesson with cam-belts and will be checking future Citroens very regularly once a week.

Looks very nice especially with those wheels on.
I think you should get the xantia repaired aswell, a replacement xud shouldn't be too difficult to find and they won't be too expensive either.
I can't see it being the one currently advertised on AUTO-TRADER which is J20 RCR, as it had it had three previous owners + the seller (Making four) when it appeared on E-BAY back in January 2012, when it still had the shark-fin aerial and sporting a rare Tailblazer 8-)

Since then its also changed hands twice and lost the Contoured mud-flaps, Shark-fin Aerial and Tailblazer

It's well documented/discussed on here in these threads THREAD #1 and THREAD#2 !

Richard, d2cv,

that one is nice but is it worth it for the price of £1500.00
i read on here that it has a Mk2 front bumper for some reason
is that something easily spotted?
My major concerns are relaibility and thats about it really
I am struggling to get my head around all of the details supplied about XM's
the Mk2 auto's at least two of them are available to me nearby,
one quite close has been restored by someone on here in metalic green
apparently it has a passenger window openning problem it opens 2 inches and stops
the listing on car and classic says he has a kit for it, half the money of the one pictured and it sounds a lot more honest
than the one pictured.
I have been offered an engine for the xantia but I can't find anyone willing to change it over if I could i would get her on a trailer and get her repaired. she has had new radiator, new shperes all round four months ago, shes got no lhm leaks at all air-con works fine airbag has been disabled by myself and passes the MOT fine every year, I have removed the cat to (dont need it). shes even had a new matrix fitted but the heater blower neerds new brushes Ive even got those in an envelope to put in.
There is no rust under the xantia estate body I waxoiled her with an electric spray gun and she gets washed with fresh water in the spring time. she has never been welded underneath in the 9 years I have owned her. although she has had two replacement drivers doors. (top hinges went up the swanny).

Id happily change the engine for you! But im on Anglesey, North Wales. Where are you???

Of all, the 2.1 TD is probably the most reliable, with Bosch mechanical fuel system. EPIC is OK as long as ONLY derv is used. But they are not unknown for failing.

Mk.2 UK front bumpers are easilly identified. The under bumper front indicator/fog lamp units are of a FLUSH fitting to the bumper where as the S1 ones are easilly clipped out of the bumper. Majority of S2 bumpers also have Headlight Washers, where S1 UK bumpers dont. But, other the front Fog/Indicator units theres little difference.

Well Nigel. In honesty, the HDi 8v 2.0 110 (ONLY) is the next best thing!

My Xantia has been amazing! They are already fitted with a MLS Laminated gasket from factory, so theres little worry about head gasket problems.

I bought my Xantia on 158k for 600 quid. Ive now done 101k in it! Only other then the engine pump giving me a cutting out problem a replacment pump for 80 uid saw that sorted. Only now at 259k Ive just changed the clutch. But as for engine.. absolutley faultless! Amazing engine!

The HDi is right up there along with the ES9 as the best engine PSA ever made...

The 2.1 comes in second to those as the very best IDI engine they ever made.

I put off getting an 8 valve Hdi for some time before Paul persuaded me and I haven't regretted it but wouldn't like to tackle a 16 valve, the 2.2 I had for a short time was fairly trouble free but dreadful on fuel, the 8 valve is excellent. Having said that the next best engine is the 2.1 in the XM its smoother than the Hdi and almost as economical, I think it was the best IDI engine ever made. The XM is also a roomier and more comfortable car.
