Wasn´t one criticism of the XM when it came out that it cost so much more than the CX, even adjusted for inflation? I get the same feeling of satisfaction that I can drive around in an MDs car but without the opprobrium that attaches to a new one.

Our June 1996-built 2.5 was eventually first registered to a South of England dealer on 1 Dec 1998, having been brought into the UK by Slough, along with 30 others, apparently.
List price was i.r.o. £29,500, and we bought it with 1020 mi on the clock for £20,250 three weeks after first registration. Extras included CD changer and towbar.

I have a UK price list somewhere with accurate figures which I shall try and dig out. For now here is the receipt for my 1991 V6 24v when purchased from a main dealer at three years old with 49K at a price of £29,000!! Regards, Matthew T.

    That really made me giggle Paul...

29K was how much I paid for my first house and only four years before the XM arrived too. That puts it into some sort of perspective I think...

They were dear...

They really were dear. The V6 Xantia was only a grand more over the Xantia Activa.
It's quite a difference between the top Xantia and top XM, even if they had the same engines and suspension. Prestige for you.

What's interesting now, is a normal mid size family car....Astra ect can easily cost what a V6 Xantia cost new in its day.
