My dads been an AA member since 1982 but he gets a deal through his work all the time that keeps it at the discounted level. he hardly uses it mind!

I've rejoined after a break from them as i used to get cover through an old bank account but i went thru quidco this time and it worked out at £47 for roadside and relay which is all i need really :)

The two times I've used breakdown I'm glad I had them.

First was the clutch clip in the 1.9 TD Xantia. I did have one in the car but I took one look at the pedal box and thought better of it.

Second time the 2.1 in the XM expired in a big way, that was completely unexpected and unavoidable.

RE: Clutch Clip.. Wimp Kev! Drive clutchless..   :D :D :D :D

My hydraulic clutch - it was the release bearing - went on me in Manchester!

I got out and home with the pedal on the floor. That was 2 sets of lights, and 3 round a bouts. And to get to the farm, single track road.. that was fun!

We have had several breakdowns and rescues by the AA, although mostly with different XM and over quite a number of years, including a split water pipe, corroded rear hydraulic brake pipe, failed starter motor and snapped clutch cable! Regards, Matthew T.

Someone else who cant drive without a clutch Pedal?? :D

Ahh spilt hydraulic pipe, thats always potentially preventable by checking the pipe work over ..

Water pipe, sheer bad luck.

In the seven years I've had this Xantia it's failed me twice - once when the original battery died and once when the rear height corrector went pop!

We have AA cover through our very expensive bank account (that I must remember to change) and on the rare occasions I have had to call on them they have given good service.

I always shop round for insurances both car and house and change them practically every year but the AA I have stuck with because I have been a member since 1958 and I get all sorts of freebees now.

The last time I broke down was with my newly acquired C5 on the M5 just as you turn off on to the A30, I was on the end of the slip road partly on the motorway, I phoned them and they arrived with a recovery truck in 7 minutes - how about that, mind you their depot is in Exeter. It was actually out of fuel  but it was reading fuel and the light wasn't on, when I subsequently disconnected the battery the light came on and the gauge read normal as it continued to do until I sold it.
