New member: 1994 V6.24

Hi,

i registered almost two years ago, but never posted anything till now.

I'm Damjan from Ljubljana, Slovenia. I currently own S1.5 1994 V6.24 PRV XM with 270k kilometers, which I acquired few months ago. I'm third owner, first owner was a director of national drinks factory (Fructal) and the second owner was (now retired) dean (of faculty of electrical engineering at university of Ljubljana) - so car was always well maintained (at certified dealer).

This is my second XM. Previously I owned 1998 2.0 TCT VSX manual, which I still regret selling.
Here are some pictures - almost all are taken of first day, so car is a bit dirty outside and inside.

Car is currently "unregistred from traffic" (SORNed) till I sort some remaining issues.

When I acquired car, it had some problems with stalling when hot (this is also the main reason why it was SORNed by previous owner).
That problem was sorted with changing TDC sensor and distributor cap. I've also changed battery and battery terminals, some temperature switches, repaired broken armrest cover etc. (some small bits).
Before putting it on road, it needs replacing clutch (doesn't slip, but it's a bit high), new RH fog lamp/indicator and fixing a bit of rust near rear LH door.

I also have one question for experts here. Does anybody know what are that red handles (on picture below) used for?

Welcome RSM..

These 24v PRV cars seem common in Europe. WE have about 20 of them we know of in the UK..

NO Sunroof too! That I envy and a couple others of us in the UK too, they are NOTHING but a pain in the behind!

Never seen those red levers before on a UK car ever! So we cant help you.

Having 240k kilometers on the clock, and original engine PROOVES that Citroen eventually fitted the modified engines from factory, but from what year is un certain. Theres a few 1990/91 24v in the UK, of which all the remaining ones have got the Later modified engines fitted to them. I think the change was around 1993.. I say this because my H reg 1990 model has a later 1993 engine in it, the fella who owned it before me had bought a 1993 with a rough body and transfered ALL the mechanical bits across.

I don't think they are that common - at least there aren't many for sale.
According to my data, there are only two S2 24V PRV left in Slovenia - one is registred and one is being scraped (owned by a friend).

Being a 1994 is probably really on of the last S1.5. It is ORGA 6282 - 20. January1994. For sure, it is the last one sold here in Slovenia.
I recently played with service.citroen.com and I think that last S1.5 24V has ORGA 6363, although very first (probably prototype) S2 24V PRV has ORGA 6181.

Mine also has later (UKZ, 2963ccm) engine fitted. Modified SKZ engines (modified ceramic tappets) were fitted from 15. October 1991 (ORGA 5454). Later engine (UKZ, 2963ccm) were fitted from model year 1994, that means 1. July 1993, ORGA 6049.

Wow! Thats GREAT info! So it was only the early 1990/91 cars that suffered! Thats a great answer!

Theres lots of these 24v in germany. Not implying you were near germany. Sorry.

Mine has the original 2975cc (was it) engine fitted. The tell tail for the later engine also is the Oil Dip stick moved - early CC engines dipstick eas over the the left with an Ornage top. Later engines it moved to the middle front of the engine with a black top on it.

No engine bay shots of your car for us to drool over???

I looked into an Italian S1 instruction manual I have lying around but no reference to any such levers, either. If you look beneath the seat, what is it attached to? Only two things can logically be there, the seat belt and their tensioners but why would any of those need grab handles...?

I will take engine bay shot. Here is one from day 1...a bit messy:


Hm, it's a bit confusing about dates then. Because mine also has dipstick on the left side with red top.
Perhaps information about SKZ/UKZ switch-over which I gathered from Dutch XM forum is then incorrect. I think more realistic date would be S2 introduction date.
But modification of SKZ engine (ceramic tappets) definitely occurred in October 1991, as I've seen references to date on many websites and also in some books.

I also have Slovenian language S1.5 manual and there is also no reference about that levers. I will ask mechanic who serviced this car if he knows or I will look under seat - it must be something special then

I could be WRONG about dip stick position then. That could be a Series Two 1995 onward position move then..

Wow that cosmetic transformation looks good.

I too need to repaint rocker cover. Is this easy as it looks job? Just unscrew those rocker cover screws, repaint cover, and then apply Loctite 5920/Reinzosil/you name it... sealant and screw it back.
I'm also thinking about LPG conversion as friend is willing to sell me LPG kit from his scraped S2 24V.
