1996 2.5TD VSX Green Estate F/S on E-bay

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Hydraulic clutches are not bomb proof.. It is known for the release bearings to pull out of the pressure plates.. or the slave cylinder to destroy itself..

so. Anyway.. Both variants have their advantages in different areas which cancel each other out.

That's very good.. its all down to driver application and how they are driven ..

The hydraulic clutch and cable gear change does make a massive difference .. IIt does in the hdi 110 xantias too.

234k is 60k into borrowed time for the average 2.5 clutch.
Pray that that thin clutch plate slips before the rivits bite.

Yes, at that mileage, it would be wiser to change it. And a late clutch means much more load on the hydraulics as well, and considering that you can only buy the second as a complete unit, it pays not to wait until the end.

But do you think we would trade in a 2.5 for a measly 2.1? No, siree... :-D Granted, you don't have room to swing a cat there but who in their right mind would want to swing cats under the bonnet?

Children, children!! I don't know, you let them off their reins and all they do is scrap.

A 2.5 doesn't worry me, the parts to sort it seem to be available, it's just with no t&t it's well over £300 to get it up here before even looking at it.

That makes it a different proposition. :(

Well, if I were into buying XMs all the time, I'd have my own trailer, too...

I have a trailer.. but why oh why did citron cap ALL XM tow max at 1500 kgs? ?? Even a 2.5 .. its daft. So I have a trailer but no point using an XM to tow. I'd always be over weight collecting Xms. ..

Fair enough. It shows that I never ever used my trailer hitch for anything but to deter those who might creep up on me from behind.

John, so are you saying 174/175k is all that's expected out of a 2.5TD clutch ?

If that's the case its been near enough on borrowed time all of the time I've owned it (which is 12 odd years now), I bought it with 168k on the clock, which were mostly motorway miles !

Also my 2.5TD is a hatchback rather than an estate (Like most of yours) therefore slightly lighter, I also don't drive it like a hooligan or tow any large trailers or caravans either which should help to prolong an average clutch life expectancy !

I can also confirm that the clutch doesn't feel any different now as the day I bought it and still is the best clutch feel of any of my 80+ vehicles (Excluding the two auto's) I've ever owned (Or any other manual vehicles I've driven not belonging to me) since passing my driving test in 1972 !
